Yanks In Wembley

Josh Wolff??? Really?!?!
That's the single dumbest decision I've ever seen a US coach make -- AND, I'm taking into account the Jeff Agoos disaster.
Would it effing kill Bradley or Sunil or whomever is making these decisions to try and win a damn game?
Playing two defensive mids almost the entire game while down if effing stupid. The "empty bucket" is effing stupid.
And, why, after 70 minutes of exactly 1/2 a shot on goal, are we still trying the same tactics?
Sending long balls to Eddie Johnson NEVER worked.
Rant over...
I worry about what Spain might do to us...

Josh Wolff should never play for the USA again in his life. EVER! He's 31 years old and he STILL doesn't know how to play forward. He just got cut by a Bundesliga 2 (or B) team.

It's decisions like Josh Wolff that should get a coach fired.

Josh Wolff sucks. What's worse is that we really didn't have many other options. Donovan was hurt and Altidore is playing for his pro team. I guess playing Dempsey up top, but that would be far too outside the box for Bob Bradley.

Would it kill him to try something like a 4-3-3 for once? Especially in light of the players available to him:

----------Rico-----------
---Edu------------Bradley
Dempsey--------------Adu--
-----------Johnson---------

When Ricardo Clark finally started to play alright (and he was awful in the first half), he gets subbed out for Edu, who looked WAY off the pace. Michael Bradley had about 5 unforgivable giveaways, though he actually looked like he was trying to get forward once we were down two goals. It's really irritating seeing Papa Bradley play Baby Bradley in such a deep position, never allowing him to get forward and merely being deployed as a destroyer.

Freddy took a minute to get involved, and didn't really do a whole lot, but at least he provided somewhat of a spark. I'm no EJ fan, but this might have been the best game I've ever seen him play. No, he wasn't great, but he looked pretty confident and did more than just make back-passes. Definitely a good game by EJ's standards.

Pearce looks to me like the best LB in the U.S pool. I like Johnny Bornstein but he's clearly not as physical a player as Pearce, who got forward quite a bit and had a decent shot on goal late in the game (it was deflected before James had to deal with it).

The pairing of Boca-Gooch is simply terrible. Neither one provides anything but physical presence and a goal-scoring threat off set-pieces. I would love to see a guy like Michael Parkhurt get a shot. Jay DeMerit and Jimmy Conrad are both better players than them as well.

This slate of games almost seems like it was set up for Bradley to fail, thus allowing Sunil Gulati to fire him. If we lose the remaining games and fail to score I think it's a very real possibility, and probably justified.

Good point about Bradley playing too deep. He only just broke the record for an American in Europe for goals in a season.

I just don't see what the strategy is. From beginning to end, they almost looked like they were playing for a 0-0 tie. As if they'd won the first leg of a two-leg series or something.

I hope Beasley is just rusty coming off an injury because yesterday, he was about the worst one on the field - save Wolff.

It just blows my mind that our starting 11 consisted of:
Gooch - flamout at Newcastle though, in his defense, he is playing well in Belgium.
Wolff - Can't even find the pitch on a Div.II German team.
Boca - Can't get on the field on the 4th worst EPL team.
EJ - same as above.

We cannot possibly be this devoid of talent. I just won't accept that.

Yeah. I just don't get it. If he was 19 and could grow over the next few years, maybe. It just makes no sense to me to waste a game at Wembley, against England, on a guy that in no way shape or form is going to help in qualifying or the next World Cup.

Can't believe I forgot to add this in all the Wolff bashing. One of my best friends, who plays on my adult league soccer team, went to high school with him. Says he is a total douche. I know, I know. Internet bulletin board bs. Just thought it was funny 'cause each time he plays, my friend and I always make it a point to call her and tell her her boy is on TV.

what i never realised, until this game, is the COMPLETE lack of our defenders to start an attack.

I mean, holy ****. the only way for our midfield to get possesion was an interception, or hope that Howards kick is won by one of our guys.

It seemed each time an England defender got the ball, it was on to Lampard, or beckham in the blink of an eye.

It really made me see that we're a solid 14 years from REALLY challenging for the World Cup, and even then, that if our coaching in the youth ranks is up to snuff.

ugh

If our forwards suck so much, and they are even worse on the U-23 level, then how come we aren't hearing anything about "El Sueno"?

Jorge Flores has scored in 3 consecutive games and actually captained the US U-20 team that went to Argentina last December.
