WVU vs. Texas Game 2

Pimp Daddy
Texas struggles to get out of last place and get in the Conference Tournament. Still tied with Tech at 4-9 because their pitching is as bad as our ability to score runs.

Weis did break his nose last night on the HBP and will be out and Carter will replace him and take one of our better bats out of the line up.

Peters who has been lights out lately hopes to get a few runs today.

Honoring the 1983 National Championship Team today and that was certainly one of the best trips to Omaha I ever made. I will never forget that Series and the bet we made a with Calvin Scharaldi's dad Joe who was a big time Aggie.

We made him promise that if we won the Series he would throw up a hookem at the end of the Championship Game.
I have a picture of him doing just that after we beat Alabama.

Peters opens with fly ball to center for out one on the lead off man.

The next hitter tries to bunt for a hit but pops it to Carter at third for the second out.

A little chopper up the middle is fielded by Hinojosa and his across the body throw is in time for the third out.

Texas comes to bat looking for it's first run of the series with no score against a pitcher getting his first conference start of the year for WVU.

Hall leading off on the first pitch grounds to short and he boots it for an error to put a man on.

Carter in for Weis can't get the bunt down and several pick off attempts later he lines one to right and wind knocks it down enough that the right fielder can make a diving catch for out one.

Hinojosa flies out to center for out two.

Payton up, but Hall is erased on a steal attempt on a pitch out to end the inning.

No score after one.

Peters in the second faces the middle of the order a ground ball in the hole at short and HInojosa dives and recovers to make a strong throw and record the first out on a nice play.

Peters with his first K of the day swinging is out two.

A ground ball to B. Marlow at second ends the inning and six in row now retired.

No score as we got to the bottom of the second.

Payton up as he was batting when Hall was gunned down.
He drives one to right center and a dive again by the right fielder this time comes up empty and the ball goes to the wall. Payton is held up at third as he looked like he wanted to go for the inside the parker, but was held up for a triple.

Ty Marlow swings wildly and misses and Augie calls for an offensive time out as we are desperately trying to score our first run against this pitcher who is starting because both of the remaining starters for WVU have era's over 7.

Marlow K's swinging for out one.

Silver a good bunter does just that and it's right back to the mound and Payton is out at the plate on the safety squeeze for out two.

Felts grounds out to short 6-4 for the third out.

I guess we would have been better off letting Payton go for the inside the park homer.

No score after a lead off triple and two innings.

Peters starts the third with a swinging K for the first out.

A ground ball single to right is the first hit of the day for WVU to put a man on with one away.

Another single to right and Payton comes up throwing and a nice deke out by Carter and the runner is shocked to find the ball waiting for him at third and he is tagged out for the second out.

A line drive down the right field line is is caught and dropped by Ty Marlow who picks it up and tags first and the out is ruled, but here comes the WVU coach to argue it was foul.
The umps are getting together and now it looks like the home plate ump is going to over rule the call and call it foul. It looked fair when Marlow touched it.

So Peters comes back out and this time he does retire the batter on a fly ball to right for the official third out.

Bottom of three ahead and no score.

Shaw playing left today against the right pitcher leads off and grounds out to short for the first out.

B. Marlow rolls out 3-1 for the second out.

Hall up for the second time flies out to shallow right to end the inning.

No score in the game after three innings and still no score for Texas after twelve innings of play in the series.

Peters out for the fourth records the first out on a K looking for out one.

A come backer to Peters is made interesting as he makes a high throw to Marlow who has to leap to pull it down and come down on the bag for out two.

Another ground ball to short and Hinojosa's throw is wide, but Marlow is able to scramble back to the bag in time for the inning ending third out.

To the bottom of the fourth with no score.

Thanks for the updates. If it is Saturday it must be the day Texas gets a 1-0 or 2-1 win.

Hall leads off with a fly ball to right that the right fielder comes in and misjudges and a last minute dive misses the ball and it results in a lead off double.

Hinojosa singles sharply to left and Hall is held at third to put runners at the corners with on outs.

Payton with a fly ball to deep right center that one hops the wall and the drought is finally broken as the double scores Hall to make it 1-0 Texas.

Ty Marlow singles up the middle off the pitchers glove that plates two more to make it 3-0 Texas.

Silver sac bunts Marlow to second for out one.

Felts flies out to left for the second out.

Shaw lines one down the right field line for another double that scores Ty Marlow to make it 4-0.

B. Marlow singles to left center that scores Shaw and it's now 5-0.

Hall with a ground ball to third that is booted for an error.

Carter grounds out to short 6-4 to end the inning.

A rare big inning for Texas gives them a 5-0 lead as we go to the fifth inning.

Peters probably wondering what that 5 in the run column means gets the first man on a fly ball to center.

A fly ball to left and Shaw with a good jump runs it down for out two.

A four pitch walk puts a man at first.

A ground ball to short is a 6-4 FC that ends the inning.

Half way through and Peters is in the books for a win now as
Texas leads 5-0.

Hinojosa leads off the fifth with a liner by the third baseman and down the line for a double.

Payton up as finally there is some action in the WVU bullpen. They have little pitching past the Friday starter and it seems they are saving it for an all out effort tomorrow.

Payton walks to put two on.

Ty Marlow up to bunt most likely and he can't get it down fair so he lines one to the gap that splits the outfielders and rolls to the wall that scores both runners to make it 7-0 Texas on the double.

That's enough for the first conference start of this pitcher Dierdorf as 7 runs is what the other started averaged.

Silver up for the first time without a bunt in order against the new pitcher Hostrander walks to put two on.

Felts gets a fly ball up in the wind in left and it carries over the wall for a three run homer into the bullpen in left that makes it 10-0 Texas.

Shaw with a bloop to center that the center fielders lays out on and makes the catch for the first out.

B. Marlow walks to put yet another man on.

Hall K's looking for out two.

Carter singles to left to put two on.

Hinojosa k's swinging to end another big inning for Texas.

Texas now leads 10-0 after five complete.

Another big righty coming in now

Peters back out walks the lead off man.

A ground ball to short is a 6-4-3 double play for outs one and two.

A K swinging ends the inning on a quick note after the lead of walk.

Bottom of six now Texas leads 10-0.

Could we spread about 8 of these runs to 4 games, the horns would be challenging for the title instead of last place.

Payton leads off the sixth and grounds one up the middle that the shortstop reaches but can't throw him out and it's an infield hit to put a runner at first.

Ty Marlow grounds out to third as Payton moves to second for the first out.

Silver flies to center and Payton tags and moves to third as the second out is recorded.

Felts singles to left and Texas leads 11-0 now.

Shaw grounds out to first unassisted to retire the side.

Texas leads now 11-0 after six completed.

Peters out for another inning gives up a lead off single to put a man on.

Got to believe this is Peter's last inning as why not give him some rest and gets some other arms in the game.

Another single to left puts two on now with no outs.

A fire alarm is going off and hopefully that is for the WVU pitching staff no first responders are rushing to the scene.

A swinging K is the first out of the inning.

A ground ball to second results in a 4-6-3 double play that ends the inning.

Texas leads 11-0 to the stretch.

WVU with another pitcher and a new catcher came in last inning also.

A tall skinny righty from Waco is getting to pitch at the Disch. He is all arms and legs at 6' 6" and 200 lbs.

B. Marlow grounds out to short for out one.

Hall K's swinging as he continues as the only Horn without a hit today.

Carter is HBP and he is at first.

A balk puts him on second as Hinojosa bats.

C.J. singles to right center and it scores Carter and it's now 12-0.

Payton up needs a homer to hit for the cycle, but grounds out to second to end the inning.

Texas leads 12-0 after seven innings.

Peters still out there and I guess he wants the shutout.

A fly ball to right down the line is run down by Payton for the first out.

A fast ball right down the middle is out two looking for a K for out two.

A walk puts a man on first as Peters goes over 100 pitches.

A slow grounder to second and B. Marlow fields it and tags out the runner coming from first for a 4U to end the inning.

To the bottom of the eighth and Texas leads 12-0.

Another pitcher for WVU comes in for an inning. He's another lanky righty.

Ty Marlow flies out to shallow center for out one against him.

Silver pops out to second for out two.

Felts reaches on another HBP and is on first with two away.

Shaw walks to put two on.

B. Marlow lines out to right field to end the inning.

Texas leads 12-0 after eight innings.

Peters day is done and Duke is on to pitch in the ninth.

I kind of wish if they were not going to let Peters try to finish they could have at least let him start the ninth and then bring him out to get an appreciative ovation from the crowd for another great outing.

Anyway Duke gets the lead off man to pop out to start the ninth for out one.

Ty Marlow makes a sliding stop down the line and makes the throw to Duke covering for out two 3-1.

Hinojosa ranges into the hole on the left side and makes a strong throw to first to get the out and end the game.

Texas wins 12-0.

This looked like what you would have expected from a baseball game between WVU and Texas before the season started.

Texas should have every chance to get their first conference series win tomorrow as they will have a decided pitching advantage.

Glad we could get a win like this on a day the 1983 Championship team was honored.

I'm sure it meant a lot to Coach Gus and the 1983 team which won 66 games that year and came back in the regionals in the losers bracket and beat a very good Mississippi State team two straight to win it.

It was a one of the very best Texas teams ever with a great bunch of guys I knew well on it. The only regret it was one year too late for Spike Owen to get a championship and he sure wanted and deserved
one.
