WVU vs. Texas Game 1

Pimp Daddy
People thought WVU would do well to win 3 or 4 games in conference for the season. They are 4-5 with a series win against Tech.

We should win this series, but who knows at this point.

They hit better and we pitch better and are at home.

French with the start and a grounder to second records the first out on the lead off hitter.

Next man grounds out to short for out two.

Another ground ball to second retires the side in order.

No score as Texas comes to bat.

Ty Marlow in the lead off position and K's swinging for out one.

Hall with a foul pop to first for out two.

Hinojosa bats third against the lefty as Weis has been moved down to fifth with his struggles lately against lefties it seems.

He flies out to right for the third out and retire the side also in order for Texas.

No score after one.

French in the second with his fourth consecutive ground ball out this time to short is out one.

A K swinging breaks the pattern for out two.

Back to the ground ball again to third is out three as the side once again is gone in order.

To the bottom of the second with no score.

Payton leads off and grounds out to first on the first pitch

Weis grounds out to second on the first pitch for out two.

Felts flies out to shallow center as Texas goes in order again also.

No score or base runners to the third.

Lead off man flies out to right for out one.

Next man doubles off the wall in right for the first base runner of the game.

A swinging K is out two.

Another swinging K retires the side and ends the first threat of the game.

Going to the bottom of the third with no score.

Johnson leads off the third and K's swinging for out one.

Gottsacker in the line up again and K's looking for out two.

B. Marlow grounds a slow roller to short who charges and throws on the run, but Marlow beats it for an infield hit and Texas's first base runner.

Ty Marlow K's swinging for the second time to retire the side.

No score after three innings.

French out for the fourth.

Ground ball to first and Marlow's flip is behind French and by him.

It's ruled a hit for the lead off man to reach.

A sac bunt attempt back to French is too hard and he is forced 1-6 for out one.

A bloop to center falls for a single to put two on at first and second with one away.

Fly ball to right center is out two.

Another fly ball to center is out three to end the inning and the threat.

To the bottom of four no score.

Hall leads off and bunts and no one is covering first and it's another infield hit.

Hinojosa sac bunts him to second.

Payton pops out to third for out two.

Weis is hit by a pitch in the head area and is down as the trainer comes out to put two on.

Weis is being helped off the field and is bleeding. I am sure they want to look him over, it doesn't appear too bad, but you never know and they are now taking him back into the training room.

Carter comes in to pinch run for Weis.

Felts pops up to second to end the inning and strand the runners,.

Weis is walking on his own now as he goes back into the training room.

No score after four innings.

French out for the fifth and gets the lead off hitter swinging for out one.

Another K swinging is out two.

French strikes out the side swinging for another K and end the inning.

Half way through and still no score.

Johnson leads off the fifth and K's swinging for out one.

Gottsacker K's looking for out two.

B. Marlow singles to right for the first out of the infield hit for Texas to put a man on.

Ty Marlow singles to left to put Marlow's on first and second with two down.

Hall with a soft liner to short that ends this threat and strands more runners.

No score after five innings.

French in the sixth gets the lead off hitter on ground ball to third.

Another ground ball to first is out two.

Ground ball to third is out three to end the frame.

To the bottom of the sixth no score.

Hinojosas leads off and pops out to third on the first pitch.

Payton lines out hard to second for out two.

Carter in for Weis flies out to center for out three as Texas goes in order.

No score to the seventh.

French still dealing in the seventh gets the lead off man on a K swinging for the first out.

Next hitter singles to left to put a man on with one out.

Ball gets away from Felts, but he recovers and guns out the runner trying to advance for out two.

Then the batter grounds out to second for out three and end the inning quickly.

To the stretch with no score.

Felts grounds out lead off the inning.

Johnson has a hat trick with his third K this one looking for out one.

Gottsacker gains his hat also with his third K this one swinging to end the inning.

French out again in the eighth a ground out to second is out one.

A single to left past Carter puts a runner at first with one away.

Now the first walk of the game comes after a very close call on the pitch before that would have been strike three. It puts two on now and here comes Skip.

Here comes Knebel and another quality start could be wasted again if we can't score a run somehow. Of course Knebel needs to shut down this inning first.

Knebel and the first pitch is wild and the runners advance to second and third. The first WVU runner at third tonight.

The batter is walked on four pitches to load the bases.

Ball one way out of the zone brings Skip back out again for a conference to encourage strikes.

Knebel throws two strikes and then a fly ball to medium center scores the run as Hall and Gottsacker come together and the throw is not even made toward the plate.

WVU takes a 1-0 lead on the SF for out two.

A ground ball to seccond ends the inning.

But WVU takes what looks like a huge 1-0 lead.

B. Marlow leads off against Musgrave the starter who is still out there. He grounds one off the first baseman's glove and the pitcher doesn't get over in time to cover and it's another infield hit for the Horns.

Ty Marlow can't get the sac bunt down and then K's looking for out one.

Hall bloops a ball to center that the center fielders dives and can't get it for a hit to put two on.

HInojosa lines out to short and Marlow is too far off the bag and is doubled up 6U-3 for the inning ending double play.

A bad base running mistake to end the threat quickly as I can still hear my many baseball coaches saying to make the line drive go through.

WVU leads after eight 1-0.

Knebel K's the lead off man swinging for out one.

Knebel K's the next man swinging for out two.

A lined drive to first ends the inning.

Three outs to prevent an undeserving loss for French and
yet another Friday night can't score loss at home in conference.

Musgrave the starter with no complete games this year is still out there.

Payton leads off the ninth and works a walk on a full count.

That is 118 pitches for the WVU pitcher.

Carter up and Augie calls the offensive TO to talk to Carter.

He says son you must get this bunt down.

Carter does and Payton moves to second with one out.

Felts flies out to center for the second out.

Silver ph's for Johnson who has struck out three times walks to put the tying run at second and the winning run at first.

Montalbano to ph now for Gottsacker and Stell is in to run for Felts.

Montalbano pops out to second on the first pitch to end the game.

WVU wins 1-0 and the starter Musgrave gets his first complete game of the year on 125 pitches.

We have played three home conference series.

The Friday night games of those series all losses are these.

A 1-0 loss to Tech, a 2-1 loss to OU, and a 1-0 loss to WVU.

Nothing to say or see here as it's all been said and seen before.

NBHorn, thank you for all your game updates. I happened to attend the game tonight (painful), but I often read your threads late at night, long after the games have been played, and it's like listening to the game on the radio. So just because you don't have people interacting with you during the game itself, don't think that your efforts are for naught.

Dear lord......for someone who grew up watching Tolentino, Campbell, Owen, Brumley, Bates, Goldthorn, Hearron, Denny, Bryant, Clemens, Schiraldi, Cook, Killingsworth, Swindell......it's just depressing as hell to see how low Texas baseball has sunk.
