WV vs Land Thieves Game Thread

The nuance being rematches against apparently evenly matched teams.
While I do agree with this, at least in the case of Texas, we have fared very poorly in “revenge games” recently. BYU, TCU (not this year), Maryland and so many others come to mind. OU may be over-hyped...

OU will want it really badly, but what about us? As if we needed more motivation, the football world believes that OU a) will win this game, b) should have won the first game, c) is unstoppable, d) has the best O-Line in the world, e) has the most explosive receivers on the planet, f) has the most talented and elusive QB ever seen on a football field, g) has an offensive genius calling the plays, etc.

How can we have a chance? Heck, it’s all but a fait ac·com·pli. Why even play the game?

I think we’ll be ready.

Fun read. Silly game.

Curious: How is Murray arrogant? I'm a little biased.

The way he treated Sam after the last game. His clear disdain for the question about how to beat Texas this time around. He was acting like Popovich. No college student has ever earned the right to be above a friendly legitimate question. His body language during the interview (looking around while the questions were being asked). Stuff like that.

I’m glad we are not the cocky team going into the game.

I find it interesting that not only Texas beat Kyler in football, but Texas kicked OU’s butt in baseball last year. He may have mental condition about Texas now.

What did he do to Sam?

I could see the on the field interview being distracting.

He can’t say anything there that doesn’t make his defense look bad. The truth is not his friend with that question. He could have been truthful and said “what time is it”. It’s 11:22 and OU’s defense still sucks.” Truthful.

I didn’t watch that but may go back and check it out.

Is this just me being hypersensitive?

The announcers going on about WVU “having their way” with the OU defense while OU only had three 3rd downs in the first half.

Murray didn’t do anything wrong. Not sure why he is getting this reaction. I think people want to project on him to have the humility of a redshirt freshman starting his first season, whereas he presents as a guy who is close to Heisman level and lost only one close game (which he can avenge)—in his second best sport. I think people are resistant to acknowledging that he is “all that” because they have only actually seen him play any sport at all (no one watches college baseball) for two months and it seems “too soon” for him to have the self assurance of a star.

Well, it is revealing that 90% of the posters on this thread preferred WVU in the B12 CH game. Why are you scared?

I really shouldn't fedl the obvious troll, but I'll bite. I wanted to play WVU for a lot of reasons, none of which have to do with "being scared".
* We've already defeated Oklahoma. We have not yet defeated West Virginia.
* In principle I always want OU to lose and I expect many OU fans feel the same way about Texas. Circumstances of the game are irrelevant to this point.
* I think the Big 12 CCG with a guaranteed rematch is a stupid idea.

Regarding the last point, I realize it's a rematch either way, but Texas and Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl is one of the biggest of college football's "sacred traditions" and WVU/Texas is not, so with the latter rematch I don't feel like anything is cheapened. I wouldn't want to see Michigan and Ohio State play again for the Big Ten title, for example.

And lest I be accused of thinking this rematch is dumb only because of a Texas bias to not have to play Oklahoma again when we might lose after beating them (the implication being that if we had lost the RRS then I would want a rematch), I should also point out that without this game, OU would already have a Big 12 Championship. So if anything, a Texas bias should be in favor of this rematch in order to give us a shot at the Conference Title. But even though it gives UT a chance at that Title that we wouldn't otherwise have, I still think it's a dumb idea objectively.

He is a qb he is supposed to have some swag to him. I think the kid is a hell of a ball player ( don’t cut my head off ) But the crazy part is, if he didn’t have that multimillion dollar baseball contract in hand he would be an even better football.

bystander:

I'm resetting a daughter's computer and these ball games are boring.

I watched and re-watched. I don't get where the "arrogance" part comes from.

My hacky transcript: (Computer is at 30% now)
Question: 4th and 5....
Answer: Just knowing the situation, knowing that if we get the first down the game's over. For me, being the guy, being the quarterback, trying to make the play for the team, for the guys...that's what we did.

Question: Defense, how do you shout them out.
Answer: They came up big tonight. I mean, I kind of put us in the whole coming out in the second half. We could have created separation right there. With the turnovers, they really had our back. At the end of the day we got the job done and we're going to the big 12 championship. Job's not finished.

Question: What stamp did you put on this team?
Answer: Just not being satisfied. Going to work every day, Trying to be the best. Being obsessed with being better every day. Doing the work every day just getting better, that's all you can ask for.

Question: Redemption?
Answer: [laughs] I don't have a comment on that...We'll just have a good week of practice and we'll see you Saturday.

Seems like a quasi shy kid being a little nervous with a camera in front of him.

Oh you Bubba, come on, the kids an OU super stud, you think we're gonna like him? Think we're not going to slam him? He was a bit, or seemed a bit whiny after the loss but otherwise I just hate that he's so d*** good. Heck I can't think of a Sooner I liked, well maybe Sam because Colt liked him, but other than that I could always find something I didn't like about your players, great guys or not. Just the fact they went there and not Tx usually pissed me off. Just sayin....Hookem.

Maybe I've inoculated myself a little from the hate by hanging out here too much. I do miss the "Bob Stoops Hates Puppies" threads. I did not like Sims. Loved Colt and Major.

I will acknowledge a class act, Sooner or not. Sam Bradford comes to mind but he seems to be the exception when it comes to high profile players. Mayfield was devoid of character, decent character that is. Murray, admittedly a great talent, strikes me as an entitled, cocky “look at me” kind of kid. At least for me it’s hard to respect those types of individuals, regardless of their skill set.

I have no problem calling out Texas players as well. While I love Hager’s passion, his antics seem to have become self serving and perhaps counterproductive. I am also disappointed in Kris Boyd, who all to often is a showboat.

I never liked Murray, but he was surprisingly objective and complimentary of Texas during the KU broadcast. Even talked about how Texas has always been known for team speed, even when he played them.

True, my bad. That’s what happens when one (me) is too lazy to read the entire thread for context!

Demarco impressed me. He was measured and objective, unlike someone like Ahmad Brooks, who apparently believes that momentary silence is not acceptable during a broadcast.

Dion, I am lodging a unilateral (unless HIC chooses to join me) and official protest with the moderator. (Please pass this along to him.)

Hey, it’s an honest mistake...sort of. They’re both named “Murray” and they are both accociated with Blow U. Thus, the immediate if inaccurate conclusion. Heck, there’s even another Murray — on the other side of the ball — this year at that school. So I believe that the intellectually challenged (like Dukesteer) deserve a pass this time.

:idk:

Relatively new regular poster but would welcome OU Bubba to throw in on anything we're discussing, especially when it comes to TX-OU....maybe haven't paid attention closely enough but seems Bubba's been absent as of late....

I've been here for years - started here back in 2002ish. I still remember trying to pull for you guys in some Holiday Bowl but it didn't take. I'd much rather spar with friendly rivals than debate who's going to be the 3rd string quick tackle on the depth chart. I had fun dueling on West Mall for the last few years but I got distracted once football season and a new job started.

I'll drop in on a thread or two.
