WRITE to Commissioner

I am encouraging all basketball fans and supporters to write to
DAN BEEBE, who is the Commissioner of the BIG 12 about Andrea Riley....this behavior is intolerable.

Coach Budke should be censured, and I think that thug Riley should be TOSSED OUT of Women's Basketball!!

That probably won't happen, but if enough people write and complain, then the Big 12 can at least look carefully at her next year and warn Budke if he doesn't leash that dog, it won't be hunting any more!!

quit being such a HATER! the days of "traditional, All-American" women's players have passed. The game has changed and evolved, and is becoming more like men's basketball every season.... as are the players. i love watching Riley play. She is fiesty, spunky, cocky, and an excitment to watch. Granted her attitude may at times be questionable, she keeps her team pumped up.... teams with a player like that don't have motivational problems and rarely have their heart and passion questioned.

And for you to call her a 'thug" is ridiculous. Do you even know what a thug is, aside from what they are portrayed as in the media? Each player, male or female, as different backgrounds and histories. it is possible, that the 19/20 year old Miss Riley's behavior can be attributed to the way she was raised... or the fact that she is young and possible immature... and if her coach doesn't show much class, she definitely isn't learning it in Stillwater.

And here's an idea, if you don't like how she acts... DON'T WATCH HER TEAM PLAY!

So you advocate just tossing aside playing standards and rules of conduct??

Big 12 rules of conduct;

""The penalties that may be imposed by the Commissioner for violation of these standards include, but are not limited to: public or private reprimand, institutional fines, and suspension from practice and competition. For incidents that involve flagrant misconduct, the penalty shall be at minimum, a suspension from ompetition for one or more games. Flagrant misconduct shall include, but not be limited to, striking (e.g., kicking, hitting, throwing objects at) an official, coach, player, or spectator.""

LBug.....you obviously need to go see boxing matches if you want to see people slug each other...

There is NO PLACE for that behavior in basketball.

Deliberately HITTING another player is WRONG, and REPREHENSIBLE.

I repeat, she is a thug, and you are a seriously deluded person.

It doesn't matter how a player was raised or where, there are still standards of conduct that MUST be met. She's an adult and even Jr. High kids know this conduct is not acceptable. There are no excuses for acts of violence in the game of basketball. Sportsmanship is just as much part of the game as talent and ability. That will never change.

anyone have a video or still shot of that incident? I watched her a couple weeks back and thought she needs an att adjustment then....

unbelievable...shocking.....maybe OSt will at least suspend her for a series of games next season...she deserves that as a minimum

while i agree that the incident was wrong and should NOT go unpunished, i think it is disgraceful to imply that a kid is "ghetto" or wasn't raised properly. i know, for a fact, that this is untrue.

riley was wrong, and her COACH, the OSU AD, the BIG XII, and/or the NCAA need to show enough class to do something about this type of behavior. let's put the blame where it really belongs -- on the player who committed the flagrant infraction and the governing administration and organizations for allowing it. leave the kid's family out of it.

some of the posters on this board amaze me with the elitest and pretentious attitudes. i guess that kind of explains why half of the posters on here don't know that only in international competition do the women use the same size basketball as the men. i just hope that any recruits who read this board -- yes, they read them and so do their parents -- don't assume all texas fans are as ignorant. most fans of the texas women's team are good people, and are knowledgable basketball fans who show true class and aren't so quick to judge.

again, i don't think anyone would condone riley's actions -- they were WRONG. but BUDKE, OSU, the BIG XII, and the NCAA need to be held responsible for ensuring a message is sent to her. she's an awesome talent, but there's no place for that type of dirty play.

No, we do not know anything of your upbringing or anyone else's on here including Andrea Riley. I, however, do know about her upbringing and I can assure you she had two incredible parents, one of whom is a friend of mine.

Andrea was wrong plain and simple and should receive some disciplinary action for what she did. I do not argue that point. I, however, take strong exception with the word "ghetto" as it wreaks of a racist attitude and is uncalled for at best. Thug is not much different.

I might remind each of you once again that Tiffany Jackson threw a flat out punch at Courtney Paris last year. I don't, however, remember any of you calling for her head on a platter.

I will not defend Andrea's actions in any way. She is an intense player and needs to get control of her emotions. She is also a very nice young lady. Attacking someone's parents and upbringing when you know absolutely nothing about them and then calling a young woman "ghetto" is nothing more than a Don Imus attitude. Enough said.

Seems to me the one poster who shares your opinion is also the one poster who mentioned her parents. The rest of us all simply agree that her behavior is unacceptable. Ghetto, Thug and Gutter don't say "racist" to me, but even though I didn't use the word ghetto, I would agree with you that it's a bad word choice given the situation.

I wrote the Big XII because the action was excused in the Big XII tournament and then was repeated during a nationally televised tournament game that was viewed by fans from many conferences. While it is not acceptable in any game, its occurrence in that game reflected poorly on the Big XII on a national level. It is now being talked about not only on this site but dozens of others including ESPN and YouTube.

You have given the Tiffany example before and so far no one else remembers that occurrence. If it did happen, it seems to be one isolated incident. Riley, on the other hand, seems to be establishing a pattern of bad behavior and OSU seems to be establishing a pattern of low expectations from its athletes. It's a pattern I would prefer to see nipped in the bud so to speak.

I do remember Tiffany throwing a punch at Courtney. I don't think she landed the punch but it was thrown.

Definition of Thug:
"a rough, brutal hoodlum".......ok, perhaps I overstated........she is just rough and brutal, maybe not a hoodlum.....

And her folks indeed may be wonderful people.

But this young lady has a serious anger problem, and the Big 12 needs to step in and say or do something about it.

I hope the Big 12 Commissioner gets hundreds of letters about this, so attention will be paid to it, and she will understand she needs to do something about her problem. And I hope Budke is censured for making light of it......and apparently condoning it.

She is a fine athlete, and she will get nowhere if this continues.....
I am sure her Coach/Dad does not want that for her.

Like someone said, once is bad but twice or more is a pattern - and she most definitely has a problem.

The bigger problem is that she continues to get away with it. As long as there's no repercussion for her actions, she'll keep doing it. You can even see in the video that she's looking around to make sure the refs aren't watching.
