WR Tren'Davian Dickson

Per a poster on another site:
NAVASOTA, Tex. — Tren’Davian Dickson was all smiles on his special day.

The four-star Navasota wide receiver officially became a U.S. Army All-American when he received his jersey on Thursday morning. It was a big moment for Dickson, but what came after wasn’t totally unexpected.

Dickson spent a lot of time answering questions about his commitment to Texas and whether or not the rumors about him wavering were true.

“I’m still committed to Texas,” Dickson said. “The stability of the program (is the biggest question mark)… just people talking about is (Charlie) Strong going to be there? Is (Jay) Norvell going to be there? Is he still going to coach receivers? Is (Shawn) Watson still going to be the offensive coordinator? All that kind of stuff.”

Dickson originally pledged to the Longhorns in July. His verbal commitment came as a huge surprise to most pundits in the recruiting community as Dickson was considered leaning towards
Texas A&M.

Shortly after making his decision, Dickson credited his close relationship with head coach Charlie Strong as the biggest factor in his commitment and added that he planned to enroll early.

Dickson seemed happy with his pledge this fall. He made a couple of unofficial visits in September and maintained that he was solid. But a few weeks ago, Dickson went radio silent as rumors about the status of his commitment spread like wildfire.

Horns247 confirmed that Dickson reached out to Baylor, where he was previously committed, about an unofficial visit and just a week later, he made an official visit to Oklahoma.

“I just wanted to see what the official visit process was like with everything going on at Texas,” Dickson said. “I wanted to make sure that if something happens, I have a place to have my options open, so I can fall back on.”

Dickson reiterated that he is still fully committed and has no plans to take any other visits.

It should, however, be noted that Dickson is the only Texas commit with plans to enroll early that has yet to sign his financial aid agreement.

“I’m just waiting on my parents and talking to them about deciding signing it,” Dickson said. “We just want to see how everything plays out. It’s just a day-by-day process.”

At 6-foot-0, 171 pounds, Dickson is ranked as the No. 21 wide receiver in the country and No. 20 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.

Seems like he is playing it smart. I have no doubts that Strong has it under control. Plus, he seems like a Strong supporter.

He's smart to consider the stability of the coaching staff. If you consider Stoops and Sumlin as Charlie Strong's competition, I would be willing to wager Strong is at Texas longer than Sumlin is at aggie, and probably longer than Stoops is at OU, given Stoops' age and that program's slow slide. We are 2 seasons into our rebuild, and only a few honest OU fans are acknowledging they are headed for a rebuild in the future. Oh, and Texas rules. Come to Austin and live the life, Tren'Davian.

To me this (decommits and the failure to have even one top 20 recruit in Texas- per Chip Brown this morning) is the leading indicator of whether Charlie returns or not. That and wins. Ok, so that is obvious but if this recruiting list doesn't pick up dramatically at some point then I would think the snowball is off and running down the hill. The negative momentum will be too much to overcome.

Well, last year Charlie couldn't recruit either.
Until a fast and furious finish put his class in the top 10.
I'll wait and see what happens.
And Dickson can flip flop right on back to Baylor.

I will admit that losing a commit to an instate rival hurts, but I will never gauge the success of recruiting by the number of stars next to a high school football players name or how he is ranked in a newspaper pole. I get sick and tired of people claiming the value of a recruit before he has even taken one snap of college football.

Summary of EJ Holland's summary at WR post-Dickson

Texas has two commits -- Collin Johnson and Reggie Hemphill-Mapps. Both appear to be solid. However, Hemphill-Mapps is still making other OVs

Next Targets -- Dee Anderson and Stephen Sullivan are current the top of the board. In addition, it's likely that Lil’ Jordan Humphrey ends up at this position.

The next group is Davion Curtis and Donell Dunn. Both are candidates to receive an offer down the line.

That was quick. Baylor must have convinced him that there was a high risk of Charlie's firing, even after January. I guess it's only too late after he enrolls for spring classes. The obvious solution to this is winning out.

Maybe they convinced him that he couldn't rape and pillage without consequence at Texas.

Oh, and Charlie lands 4 star DE today.
Too bad he can't recruit.

Great news on Andrew Fitzgerald committing! Baylor can have Flip-Flop Dickson. I suspect he's more of an "all-about-me" type and won't fit. In a couple of years when Baylor craters, I hope he's still satisfied with his choice.
