On top of that, the Quran does not state what women should wear. It only says that women should dress modestly so as not to attract the gaze of men (lustfully) that are not members of their family or their husbands.
The burka, or hijab, is a traditional dress that people have worn over there for literally thousands of years, and it is not specific to Islam. Look at the nativity scene. They are all wearing hijab. Nuns wear hijab. Rabbis basically wear it. Its not an Islamic thing.
The veil is not Islamic. Its traditional Middle Eastern dress that serves practical purposes, namely to keep the damn sun and sand off of you. It is not a weapon of servility or torment or humiliation. It does not dehumanize or oppress women. The men wear it too!
However, it does a really good job of hiding the sexual features of a woman's body, and as a result keeps the lustful eyes of men off of her.
