women's swimming

Women finished #2 last week at NCAA finals. Well done. Matched last year’s performance. Program is picking up speed I think to grab the natty soon.

For the first time (I believe), diver Hailey Hernandez did not qualify for the NCAAs in a springboard event. She was a 2021 Olympian prior to coming to Texas.

It wasn't because she dove poorly. In fact I think she had the highest average rating at about 7.5 which is pretty good over that many dives. But her last two dives were a DD 1.9 and 2.1. Others were diving 2.8-3.4.

This feels like really poor strategy on the coaches part. But, does anyone know if she's nursing an injury?

She had never done platforms either but did compete in platform at SECs. Her score was high enough to make the consolation final but she scratched and let another UT diver compete in her spot.

It does seem like based on her results today in the 1M, that she'll get to also compete in the 3M (where she finished just outside of the automatic qualifications).
