Will Russ - #25

This could be a significant upgrade. If opposing offenses have to start on the 20 yard line fifty% of the time against Muschamps' defenses, I like our odds. Hopefully Akina keeps that pooch kick and line drive off the front line in the playbook for special occasions!

Imagine what he might become when he grows into that 6'3'" body.
Right now, he has to jump around in the shower to get wet! Mr. Russ, meet Mr. Weight room.

It said in the Statesman story that they had kicks blocked due to breakdowns in protection, When I looked at the video, I was struck by how slow his approaches are, particularly on punts, which gives more time for protection to break down. He's really going to have to improve that aspect of his game. He certainly has a strong leg - just has to get the ball off.

When people who go to a game comment that the best player on either side was a kicker, that's a good thing, so I'll be very interested to see him, We really haven't had a great punter in a long time.

I thought the same thing. He has quite a wind up. That said, I youtubed some punting highlights (including the great Ray Guy), and many had a couple step run up.

With some practice and work I am sure that some of the faults mentioned will be corrected. The main thing is he has the leg and ability to do very well.

kickoffs from day one -- check. this is the one area where slow windup has no effect.

I would like to see him just kickoff, extra points, and field goals the first year.

speaking of kickers have you seen the highlights of the Tarleton State University kicker? 64 yard FG to tie the playoff game and send the game into overtime. Saw his other video, his highlights of the season, looked consistent from 50 and in.
