Hey there, Doc, I don't know if you are reading this or not, since you hadn't posted in 3+ weeks. If you are, that's great- keep hanging in there. Your dignity and courage are inspiring to the people around you.

But if your time came and through some mystery of the cosmos you are aware of what happens on this board, you should also know that the time you spent here with all these people counted for something, and that people noticed you were gone.

Godspeed, Wild Bill.

I can only assume the worst without a reply in weeks from Will Bill. If so, I believe he's pain-free and definately in a better place. Prayers to his family.

I also fear the worst, but echo your sentiments. I pm'd him after he had not posted for some time, and did not receive any answer.

There was or is somebody in place to let us know so hopefully he is on vacation or keeping busy doing things better than hang with us. That is what I am going to stick with until we learn otherwise. That tough son of a ***** is kicking back sipping something under a shade tree, somehow, somewhere.

Who was the person in charge or in touch with him that would notify us if anything happened? It would be really cool if they chimed in one way or another (preferably with good news).

I have not seen or heard one way or another. I have been keeping tabs on the news and obits for Bill's hometown and haven't found anything at all. I only have PM'd him through hornfans so I know his name just don't have any personal contact information.

I think he had some improvement last I heard but cancer is an unpredictable ***** and can take you down a steep fast slide. I hope Bill and his family are doing as well as possible.

I hate to speculate, but I live in San Antonio. In the obituaries, Wed. there was one for a William "Bill" X, a physician, loved the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, but was "a most ardent fan of the University of Texas Longhorns" Went to UT, and had several family members that were MDs as well. Passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.

Could that possibly be our Bill? I don't want to share the last name, but that might be a clue to those who knew him best.

Bedhead, I looked into the obits after reading your post. Wild Bill has gone home to his rest. RIP, Bill.

I am not great with words in situations like this. But Wild Bill had been in my thoughts and prayers since his first post about his battle. I am sorry to hear that "C" has taken another one, but I know Bill is in a better place. His family and friends have a spot in my prayers still.

I was afraid of this...glad you could confirm and we all finally know.
God bless Bill and his family...it sounds as if his roots grew from those who care about people. Being an MD is a very tough, demanding job and I'm sure he helped thousands of patients, A life well lived.
"For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

so so very sorry to hear.

he fought the good fight, and is now in a much better place.

prayers for his family and loved ones.

Thanks to the hornfans community on the news. Bill wanted me to keep an eye on the TMA website for his obit and let everyone know.

Hate to lose a fellow doc and fellow Longhorn. Prayers for Bill's family.

Brothers, scatter me where there is open space,
west Texas, preferably, so blindingly
bright in the harsh heart of autumn.
Sisters, remember me whisperly
where past stony rims Peregrines fly
near sun-scarred cliffs in the profound empty
of mid-October. No one will sorrow
who finds himself to this favored place.
Butterflies pass this sacred spot, averting their gaze.
Sunlight pours through the heart of a cactus
and look! An eagle angles in from Mexico
or another distant mythology.
No, friends, remember me with no glorious tomb,
just with a smile and a story and a cold beer at sunset.

The battle is over and he is at peace. Now the loved ones left behind are left to deal with their loss. My thoughts and prayers for his family and friends. RIP buddy.

Indeed the battle is over but Bill won, not Cancer. You see, I and all of us will never forget him and his courageous fight. It inspired us. You took his body, Cancer, but you did not take his soul. You did not take our memories even if on the internet. You did not take the hundreds of people he helped either.

He wins, Cancer, not you. We are still here and he lives on along with all of our other fallen Longhorns...'till Gabriel blows his horn!
