Wife having surgery tonight...

My wife was admitted into the hospital on Tuesday.

A little background: my wife is diabetic, and has been struggling mightly for the last several years to get it under control. She also has a few other chronic health problems, along with being a carrier of MRSA staff (very bad staff infections).

Well, she has a bad habit of picking at her toenails, and eventually a couple of them got infected. The MRSA staff then invaded them, and with the diabetes she was not able to fight off the infection.

I took her to the emergency room on Tuesday, and they ended up admitting her later that night and started her on IV antibiotics.

Tonight, they are going to do surgery and will have to amputate at least part of one toe (if not all of it) and may have to take more depending on what the surgeon sees when he gets in there.

Any prayers and/or well wishes would be very much appreciated. It's not exactly life threatening, but my wife is facing a future (she is only 36) with one or several toes missing from both feet.

veggieboy,

I will keep your wife and you in my prayers. I hope she comes out of this with a little change to her body as possible.

Here's the update:

They had originally scheduled my wife for surgery between 4 and 5 pm. They then pushed that back to 7 pm. Well, she finally got into the OR at about 8:30 and was in recovery by 10:30. It made for a very long night.

The doctor had to amputate the 2nd and 3rd toes on my wife's right foot, and part of the 2nd toe on the left foot. She will have to stay in the hospital until at least Monday when the doc will close everything up.

They are going to install a pic line today so that she can be started on a course of IV antibiotics. That could last anywhere between 2 and 8 weeks depending on what they find out from the lab.

My wife's spirits aren't the best, but they are the best one could expect. I am always so proud of her because she is such a fighter and always tries to stay so positive despite all of her ongoing health problems.

She doesn't believe me when I tell her, but she is one of the strongest people I have ever known. Most people, faced with the list of problems she has had to deal with at such a young age, would have given up a LONG time ago.

I want to thank everyone here for all of the prayers and well wishes. It means so much to me and I will convey all of them to my wife.

I will continue to keep her in my prayers.
I have a bad habit of picking at my toenails when I get nervous, drives the hubby crazy but I never realize I am doing it.
I think this situation will make me more aware and stop doing it.

I am sure having someone like you around being so supportive will bring her spirits up

I will continue to keep your wife (and you) in my prayers. I am assuming this is staph infection, and that is an insidious beast.

I am sure your support and love means everything to her.
