Why would the Austin Marathon prohibit ipods?

If having huge amounts of space to yourself is so important, don't run on a narrow trail with lots of other people on it. If you then choose to run on said narrow, crowded trail, don't whine about people being in your way. There are these things called "roads"...

The subject of racing with an Ipod really isn't any different than the talk of banning cellphones while driving, other than the fact that it's already prohibited.

There are plenty of people who can safely drive and talk on the phone. Unfortunately, there are a bunch who can't.

I guess there are nerds for just about everything...and now I know the simple act of running is one of them.

When I run I don't want to talk with other runners, ever. Running is a purely solo activity for me, really a meditative exercise in a sense.

Beau Vine's grand objective wisdom on the sport notwithstanding, if you like music while you run, use the iPod. It's your run.

On long bike rides (MS150) it is definitely a hazard to plug both ears. It is essential to hear warngings from other cyclists.

But running? That's different. You're not going as fast as a car or bike so you're well being isn't at stake as much. The one ear suggestions seems logical.
