WHY WHY WHY did you have to leave us

During one of the first games of the tourney, these guys spent at least thirty minutes discussing RVs love for food, especially CWS food. They then went on to expound on the subject at every chance that they had during the remainder of the game. Twittering or tweettering was also discussed at GREAT length, and RV was solidified as the best and most popular ballplayer to ever play in the CWS in the eyes of his fellow announcers. The gushing admiration was way over the top.

As for the last Texas game, my GF remarked that these guys were the worst and looked more as if they were sitting in the back yard shooting the bull. I could see something like this from RAYCOM or the like, but ESPN should really be embarrassed by this obvious bush league production.

That was my thought as well. You'd expect that kind of quality from a lesser network that assumes all you need for a successful broadcast team is an ex-pro or two. You don't expect it from a network like ESPN that should know better.

People say "just be glad it's on TV." No. I will not just be glad it's on TV because putting it on TV and making a joke out of it is worse than not having it on TV at all. Aside from all the tangential conversations about completely irrelevant topics, when they did bother to actually discuss college baseball, they were either drooling over a pitcher who wasn't throwing well (Leake), obsessing about MLB draftees who weren't even in Omaha (Strasburg), or making fun of a legendary and highly successful coach for bunting and claiming he can't recruit good position players because he makes them bunt all the time.

If ESPN doesn't care any more about college baseball than that, why don't they let CBS College Sports or Fox Sports Net or some other entity that actually bothers to broadcast some regular season games take over production of the CWS?

Agree with all of the above, and the game last night was infinitely better done by Mike Patrick. I finally hit the mute button the night before and just watched since I can't get the radio feed. What a disaster Orel, Steve Phillips, and Sean were!

Every time I hear Mike Patrick do a CWS game, I get a feeling that he truly enjoys being there. That helps his broadcasts.

If Harold could have just kept his damn hands off of Erin, everything would be alright.

I'm in.

They called the game like it was game #107 in the endless Major League schedule where you've worn out every fact and factoid about every player. They thought they were in cruise-control and could either ballyhoo Leake or cut-up about their favorite ******* movies.

Amazing that their demeanor and interest didn't pick up more after Texas tied the game. It was like, "Well, we can't talk about Leake much anymore. I guess it's talking about movies and then kidding each other about our choices. Yuk yuk yuk."

Like all the rest of you. I'd rather have a no-name, less polished announcer who is actually passionate about what he/she is covering than a half-interested A Team.

We need to be clear in our complaint: the announcers were not biased. They were ******* annoying.

And I don't swear that much in print.

Oh, but what a game. Well done, 'Horns. I wandered from the TV and only heard the three-run blast. What a fool.

The announcers would have to care to be biased. That's the whole problem, they aren't very interested in college baseball. So get someone who is.

I always thought he did a really solid job.

I don't normally get to huffy about bad sports broadcasts, but the CWS 2009 is atrocious.
