Why the lineup change?

Was our offense not clicking enough, Augie? It appeared that are lineup was set and was working well together. Not today though, Moldenhauer plays for Keyes and Lusson for Rowe. Not sure why this happened but as it did, we scored ZERO (0) runs. Getting hits and putting guys on, but the flow of our lineup did not allow for the guys to string together hits. Left 9 on base. Go back to our regular lineup and we score at least 4 runs. Damn.

1) Game's not over
2) Molenhauer and Lusson had 1/3 of the teams hits in game one
3) We're #1 in the country, why the negativity? Has Augie not proven that he knows what he's doing?

Lusson played well in Center Field today making a couple plus plays, and he had a hit (these were hard to come by). You really got to get moldy hot, he is one of our best hitters when he's healthy.

Why not make a change up? Neither Keyes nor Rowe have been tearing it up lately.

Augie has lost his mind or his magic. Either way his ship has sailed and should have been shown the door. Texas was rolling, and he totally screws up the chemistry with changes for no reason. Its either that or this team isn't any better than the last two he has fielded.
I realize its just one game, but this game has shown the same ear marks of the last few years. Absolutely no sense in the line up changes, and no sense in the pinch hitting, or even the wasting of Wood in the ninth. Its a long season and series. Why put Wood out there in a game where you have very little chance to win it.??
I know its a what have you done for me lately attitude, but WHAT HAVE THESE COACHES DONE FOR US LATELY ??? Especially hitting....Against good pitching...Nothing......

I understand the frustration, but putting Wood out there for one inning is hardly wasting him, he'll be fine to go again today if needed. Down 2 going into the 9th is not unreachable add the fact that although Gibson had been stellar, he was around 120 pitches. He had shown signs of losing some of his control and throwing more balls.

Wood came in and got the outs we needed, I didn't see his pitch count but it cant be over 20.

To add, the fact that hitters were consistently swinging at bad pitches as well as not working the count to get walks or good pitches to hit is not necessarily coaching faults. I will admit I was surprised with the Etier pinch hit decision though.

I don't know what to think but hopefully it was a one game ordeal and is over with. Put Keyes and Rowe back in. Put the lineup back in the order that it was when we went 11-0. Do this and we will be fine offensively. We need to, and should, take the last two games against this bad Mizzou team.

That Mizzou pitcher threw a great game 1. He kept everything low and our batters were consistently swinging over the top.

That said, I am worried about our hitting. We're leaving too many runners on base and just don't really drive the ball very well. Lots and lots of ground outs. I have a feeling we will win a lot of 1-0, 2-0 type games this year.

Honestly I'd rather win 1-0 2-0 than 11-10 15-12. Pitching is most important in making a run, that and defense.

Yeah that 31-12 game was maybe the most ridiculous momentum shift i've seen. From being up big to losing bigger.

The Mizzou pitcher in the first game is probably a first round draft pick at the end of the season.

Kevin Keyes and Connor Rowe were not producing at the plate, thus the switch.

Everyone take a deep breath. It is going to be a long, competitive season. I saw both games, 18 innings, in person. Missouri has a "salty" ball club, excellent defense, and the game l pitcher, Gibson, has great movement and a 94mph fastball. We'll be ok, but Big 12 baseball is very competitive.

Without addressing this specific issue, Augie explained it in his post game interview. As he said it, this offense is very inconsistent and he is looking for ways to improve it.

Not to mention as posted earlier, that pitcher is probably one of the best two or three in the conference.

Interesting to hear that Augie thought our offense was inconsistent. I guess he knows best though and let's hope he learned some things that will make us better in the long run.

What's up with all the Mizzou love though? They are sub .500 and have lost some bad ball games. Oh well, it's the Big XII and we need to win them all no matter who the opponent.

goodfellow- do you ever have anything good to say? I see a negative post from you in every thread of any forum you post in. I just don't get it.

anyways, it's baseball guys, good pitching beats good hitting any day of the week. It's been proven plenty of times by plenty of teams in baseball history. And that seemed to be the case in game 1.

i don't understand how people get so worked up over a 2-0 loss

Yeah I don't know what this Goodfellow fella is talking about. That's just crazy, obviously.

I agree that good pitching beats good hitting throughout the course of a season, but in individual games, like Game 1 yesterday, if your own hitters cant step up and help out then your pitching is useless. We shouldn't lose ball games by giving up 2 ER. That just cant happen. Our offense should always be able to muster up at least 1 or 2 runs IMO.

Augie will make some decisions during the season that will cost us some games. That's how he rolls. He does not care as much about the individual game compared to Gustafson. Augie is all about Omaha. You gotta give some kids a shot every now and then. They're practicing every day as well.

Yeah if we win games in the end because we lose some up front, I guess I'm okay with that. If Augie thinks guys like Moldenhauer and Lusson deserve shots then I guess I'm okay with that as well. Like oilfield said, we don't know who's doing, or not doing, what in practice so we will just have to defer to the coaches.

20 minutes till we take the series!

I think Keyes has earned his starting spot back. We need his power. I'd like to keep Lusson in Center for now. He impressed the heck out of me this weekend. That's not a knock on Rowe, but I think Lusson is better right now.
