Why did Dicus leave Lake Travis?

Win1 i can tell you are not and do not have a teacher in the family. Saying they work more hours is simply miss-speak. The only qualifier I would allow is to say I am talking about a dedicated teacher but in general the hours a teacher puts in are absurd. I know, my daughter teaches HS honors Biology, including two Bio's a Anatomy/phys and Student Council. Until this year she also coached the girls soccer team. Don't even try to tell me her schedule/time/effort compared to the HS football coach.
Although I do confess I thought he was a particular jerk because of some
run-ins daughter had with him while she was coaching the girls soccer.

Just an opinionated dad.

So....Lake Travis wins 1 state championship and people all already claiming them to be the next Southlake Carroll or Westlake?

Wow. Let's hold the horses and wait to see how that program does the next several years before we make outrageous claims.

And if you took a poll of people all across the state (panhandle to the valley, El Paso to Far East Texas) who knew anything about high school sports/athletics, I would bet that 8 out of 10 would know about Duncanville over Lake Travis, easily. I still don't understand why some people are portraying Duncanville as some third rate high school who has never had a lick of success in their entire career. I can count numerous athletes who played for UT who came from Duncanville. I can, now, count 1 from Lake Travis.

Duncanville is no inner-city school. It's not a rich, all-white school like Lake Travis but an inner-city school it something it's not.

didn't kimball go to the state champ game a couple of seasons ago? and lost on a last second blocked field goal? and their qb eaton is a guard for okie state? there's plenty of talent and motivation in south dallas. also, i could be wrong, but isn't duncanville in the same district with the arlington schools? if so, not exactly the toughest district in the area.

edit: yup, here's their district as of now.

8 District
Arlington
Arlington Bowie
Arlington Sam Houston
Arlington Lamar
Arlington Martin
Cedar Hill
De Soto
Duncanville

shouldn't be too hard to get on top of that district.

Actually, that will not be the district that duncanville will be participating in next year. Duncanville, Cedar Hill, the Grand Prairie schhools and the Irving schools will comprise a district. (Desoto being in with Mesquite & Tyler schools).

i never claimed LT was already a powerhouse. what i said was LT has more potential ahead of it than Duncanville. I bet if you go around the state and ask HS football coaches they would tell you that LT has a chance to be something special whereas Duncanville has a chance to be what it has always been in football: a good school that produces some good athletes and contends for district every other year and makes a run in the playoffs every 4 or 5 years.

And you now have 2 LT players not 1. And we know Todd Reesing from LT is pretty decent at Kansas.

What FOOTBALL players from Duncanville have we had at UT? Boone Powell? I cant recall any others.

And yes there is no denying the success Duncanville has had in baseball and basketball. i think it can trully be called a powerhouse in baseball and girls basketball and a very good school in boys basketball. but in football, it is nothing more than a good school. it is not a unified district. it is not a focused and motivated district. it is half suburban and half urban and that works against it more than anything else.

when i played for SGP, duncanville and carter were both in our district. i watched barry foster play for them and played against some very good Duncanville teams. They were not then nor have been since, a powerhouse or dynasty. they are a solid football program.

I also played against the 1988 Dallas Carter team. They beat us 7 - 0 on an interception return by Leshai Maston. They were a great defensive team. Not so great on offense. Its funny cause in the movie FNL, they went on and on about how big Carter was. We never discussed their size nor did we consider them to be a big team. maybe they had a few big Olineman but nothing out of the ordinary. they were however a fast team. their D was the fastest defense i have ever seen at the high school level. we gameplaneed to counter their speed by running right at it. it was somewhat successful. Jessie Armstead and Derric Evans were much less effective when ran right at rather than allowed to chase down plays from behind. we outgained Carter 2 to 1 and missed 3 field goals but could never score a touchdown. their offense never got past our 40 yard line. it was a great game. we came in 3rd place that year in district and would have gone to the playoffs if Carter had been DQ'd before the playoffs began. they beat us on the field. they deserved to go.

i wish coach dicus all the best at Dunc. It obviously was the best decision for him. he is a terrific coach and will do great things at duncanville.

Win,

Please find me 5 head football coaches in a Class 4 A or 5 A school that mark the field, drive the bus, or teach more than 2 other classes that aren't related to athletics.

I am not anit-athletics and have nothing against coaches, but to take the position they do so much more work than a teacher and are held accountable by so many more is off based. My sisters is an English teacher at a large high school here in Houston and just turned down the department head position due to the fact that the stipend doesn't commensurate with all the added time and stress for making sure the school keeps up its numbers for the state mandated tests. Then again, being held accountable for the performance of over 3,000 kids whose tests results are closely watched can't nearly be as difficult as running a football program.
