Why are Latinos supporting Hillary?

If we're to believe the polling, Latinos are voting heavily for Hillary. Does anyone know or have any theories as to why? I haven't heard anything concrete from the talking heads yet.

“The Hispanic voter—and I want to say this very carefully—has not shown a lot of willingness or affinity to support black candidates.”

—Clinton pollster Sergio Bendixen

That's complet and utter crapola. Go ask Ron Kirk what kind of support he got from the Latino vote in Dallas... The notion that Latinos won't support a black candidate is just another form of the divisive politics we've grown accustomed to.

Divide and conquer - wake up people.

If you don't believe there is any divisiveness between the Latino and African American communities then just wow.
I am not going to say that this is true of all blacks or all latinos. You cited Ron Kirk who did get a great backing from the Latino vote. He also had prominant latinos back him vocally when he was in Dallas, and when it came to the state wide election he was the Democratic candidate, which latinos tend to always vote before Republican.
There are always exceptions to the rule, but there is a degree of animosity between African Americans and Latinos.

I think it might play differently in Texas. In California, you have a longer history of Latinos being politically active. They are therefore more organized and more likely to vote along similar lines.

Not to mention that in Dallas, where Ron Kirk was once elected mayor, gangs aren't targeting others based on race. Unlike LA,

I saw a regression analysis on Dailykos that suggested that Hillary's latino support is more because she does better with voters the fewer years of education they have, and that once education level is factored out, latinos are voting similarly to whites. Now that may be a racism thing or not, as less educated people are more likely to be racist (according to my own informal statistics).

While Clinton probably has a more appealing position on healthcare, its undeniable that Obama's position on immigration is preferable to Clinton

Clinton has basically hedged back and forth on immigration, Obama has consistently wanted to give them drivers licenses and open the borders.

I heard this in a discussion earlier today;

"Blacks have only looked after blacks, not equality. If you put a black man in charge what is the difference than putting a white man in charge? For the hispanic person, it only means you start out in 3rd place instead of working for 2nd."

I've heard that the Valley in Tx is very opposed to Barack Obama. Of course, those being hispanic. I just ran across this this past weekend so I don't know how true it is. The whole hispanic for clinton issue is new to me.

I'm Pro Clinton b/c I like her. I have a huge uneasiness about Barack's Muslim past. I think it will get unturned and much will be revealed if he faces the republican's.

Whoa hold on there. What is this fear of Obama's "Muslim past"? He lived in Indonesia for some years as a kid, that's all. I think having an international and multicultural background helps in foreign policy anyways these days.

It's just very uncfortable to even ponder someone saying that dumb white people and dumb hispanics are more likely to vote for Hillary. But when you look at the votes being cast ... .

Both his father figures were Muslim, went to a school, if I'm not mistaken, the same one that radical terrorists went to, His mother is an athiest, he doesn't put his hand over his heart when saying the Pledge, Marxist, socialist tendencies, anti war-pro muslim....

I don't know any of these to be true, only things I've read. I am not passing judgement, I am waiting for all of this to come to surface and the questions to be answered after the media Lovefest with BHO comes to a halt.

I've done Wikipidia and such, and I'm still searching. I want to know how this leans.

Blackbelt:

Please tell me that was tongue in cheek and that you really do not believe that Obama was a Muslim.

It is mysterious how these bogus e-mails tend to become more numerous in states where a primary is coming up.

The phony Robocalls are probably not far behind.

I didn't get any e-mail, I told you I looked a bit online. However, If SD can't understand that I NEVER SAID THAT I THOUGHT BARACK WAS A MUSLIM, then this discussion was a waste.

I have said what I have heard recently. SDHorn will not influence my LOVE for Barack anymore than any other piece of information I've read on Barack.

I've listened to hours of debate and Barack has said almost nothing....aside from his strong stance against war, he doesn't seem to have a message, a stance, nothing...I've listened hard and haven't come up with anything.

No matter what I say or how I vote, it won't be up to me alone to vote the next person into the presidency. I'm just not a robot that will follow a man professing "hope, change" and everything EVERY POLITICIAN THAT DOESN'T HAVE an idea will use, every election.

Have you ever heard of factcheck.org? Please don't be spouting those as truth unless you have really checked them out. For one thing, he has attended a Church of Christ in Chicago for 20 years. Just because your mother and/or father figure were not Christian doesn't mean you can't find your calling there. And yes, he attended a Muslim school (no, not radical teaching) for a couple of years in Indonesia, and also a Catholic school as well while there. Cut the further fostering of untruths unless you really know what you're talking about.

Re substance: all you have to do is go to Obama's website and see his stand on every single issue. Early in the campaign (as he said on 60 minutes) people were accusing him of being too professorial. So we are responsible for finding things out too and not just listing to stump speeches by all the candidates.

Gail in WA (but I am a native Texan, so don't go postal on me)

Gail,

Can you read in WA?
REREAD WHERE I SAID OF ANY CERTAINTY THAT HE WAS A MUSLIM.

I simply haven't done enough research to state these as truths.

Then again, you would have to be able to READ in order to know that instead of falling all over yourself to protect the idea of "hope and change".

Well, blackbelt, if you don’t know something’s true, why write it? No you didn’t say he was Muslim, but seemed to intimate that he would be pro-Muslim, which has no basis in fact.

Anti-war does not equal pro-Muslim. He is anti-THIS war; said he is not against all wars, if truly justified.

I just get frustrated when people quote something they got in an email, regardless of the information, until they have checked it out.

Gail,
Your Lovefest with BHO is well-noted. However, if you read the posts prior to my RESPONSE, you would have seen that a poster asked, "what Muslim past....concerns you".

I simply stated what I've read, then stated I didn't KNOW EVERYTHING TO BE TRUE, and went on. That is the only reason I stated any of that. I don't know all of the story.

I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH WHAT I DO KNOW.

It doesn't matter what I know because he isn't my CANDIDATE to begin with. This whole post began with a question regarding HRC.

The funny thing is that you don't know ANY MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE ABOUT WHAT BARACK CLAIMS, other than what he wants YOU TO BELIEVE.

My first quirk is that a person would stand up and use the same rhetoric that has been overused in EVERY ELECTION with no backing. He must think we are all pretty dumb and shallow. What makes this man any different? Is he going to walk in and everyone is going to fall down and kiss his *** b/c he wants hope and change???

I dont' THINK so, but you have to start with THINK.

"I don't know this to be true" is a very weak defense of your ignorance.

It wouldn't kill you to actually take the time to find out the truth instead of repeating nonsense all over the place.

With the amount of time you've spent posting on HornFans, you could've gone to his website by now.

I'll be doing the same at McCain's website if HRC wins the nominee to determine if I am even going to vote or sit this one out for the first time.

So I'm supposed to get objective information on BHO's website. Damn, things have changed since I went to UT. I just found out from ROLLING STONES his parents were athiests.

Imagine that.
