Who has the best breakfast tacos?

Gotta go with Jim Bob's at 2244 and 71. AWESOME, but they can produce a gut bomb that would likely end the confilct in IRaq rather quickly.

yep, airport and 48th or something. i love that place. it isn't the same "establishment" as the one on guadalupe and 29th. that was the one with "taco wars"!?!

This is an extremely important issue to me, so I thought I'd jump in with my analysis. Having recently graduated from UT and having spent a significant portion of my mornings eating tacos for breakfast, I feel I can offer insight on the taco "scene" around campus.

I'll start with Dobie Mall -
Cafe Matisse: not cheap, but no more than two bucks. The tacos here though, are somewhat ill executed. They are hefty enough, but the egg is always extremely dry.

Wrap it Up: this place is great and has a deal where you can get two tacos plus coffee for under 3 bucks. The tacos are huge and very tasty (the complimentary salsa is crap). The only thing is, if you're like me and usually get the potato + egg taco, every now and then these guys forget to boil the potatos all the way so you end up with this delicious taco with a bunch of nasty raw potato in it. Very frustrating. But when Wrap it Up doesn't "**** it up", buy two tacos and then get a strawberry banana smoothie next door for a great breakfast.

Taco Cabana: tacos for a buck but only from 11pm - 11am(2pm on weekends). Best part is the tortilla. Of course, it's drunk food, but good drunk food.

The Texas Union sells pre-prepared tacos each morning which are wrapped in tin foil and kept in a kind of heated box or midget microwave so watch your hands. They've got a ton of different cominations but only a limited supply so the good stuff goes early on. These tacos are crap. The egg isn't bad, nice and spongy, but the tortillas and bacon or potato is always bush league.

Kirby Lane: what you want to avoid here is overloading the taco with too many elements (you'll pay at least 2 bucks). Kirby on the Drag doesn't do a very nice job cleaning the grill so the tacos here are always greasy as **** and somewhat tasteless. A bad option.

O's: horrible tacos coupled with a kind of arrogant cachet that says they can sell them to you for more than a buck. Avoid O's breakfast tacos at all costs. It will be the worst thing you've ever eaten. Just dreadful.

The shack on 30th and Guadalupe: good stuff. Bit of a hike for some people in West Campus.

This isn't comprehensive, but overall I found Wrap it Up the best option for on campus breakfast tacos.

I had forgotten about how scalding hot those tacos in the foil you buy out of the cart are.

I used to buy them from that Korean lady with the cart in front of the Co Op on the Drag while we would wait for the light to change and it was our turn to walk.

I always got the fajita taco, plain because I was walking and could not add condiments with out spilling them.

You ALWAYS forgot how hot they were fixing to be, bit into them unprepared, and then proceded to hop across the cross walk on one foot, breathing in and out of your mouth very loudly thinking that that would some how cool down the 600 degree fire you just scalded your insides with.

Ahhh, college memories.

Mendoza's in Clute, Texas (an hour south of Houston) worth the drive from houston and maybe from austin

It's sacrilage I know, what with being a bbq joint and a chain, but Rudy's on 360 has the best breakfast tacos in town.

Tamale House on Airport is the only place in town to get good Migas, and theirs are the bomb.

Have not tried Ken's but I have eaten Jim Bobs. These freakin things are enormous. I ate two and they took my picture.
