the game Wacker injured his knee was 1982. 14-0 ranked #5 in the country. Most people give partial blame to the court. It was not made of wood, it was a rubbery substance. Tartan?

The thing that was impressive was reading a followup story years later that Mike was determined to come back, like any other athlete. The thing that was different was that even after he rehabbed his knee and came back, he couldn't be a normal athlete after the game.

He had to ice the knee after every game and according to a story I read, sometimes had shooting pains that would wake him up from a nap on the ride home, and the pain was so intense he would scream in pain.

And he never complained to anyone.
