Where we sit March 1

It is kind interesting that Lundardi has us in going into the Kansas game and out after losing by 10, on the road, against a Top 10 team. For perspective, the "unbiased" computers moved us up per the loss.

Sucks for me in that Tennessee made a late run and looks to be sneaking in while Texas looks to be on the way out. I have a lot of friends who suddenly turned into big-time basketball trash talkers per this turnaround. Also, it didn't help that Texas lost to them in baseball. I hate bandwagon fans. If Texas had won, they'd say "who cares? It's baseball". However, now that they won, they're talking **** to me.

Thursday night is going to be intense.

I'm guessing the computer algorithms don't include effects of starter loss due to injury for the next games.

Yeah, if you just input the raw data from the box score, Texas just lost by 10 to potential Final Four team on the road.

Good data. Computer programs can deal with that.

Texas lost its starting post and the other big reinjured his ankle, leaving only underclassmen. Not sure the computer programs have human brains and can evaluate the potential change in character of the team based on that.

Not being a downer on the Horns, just a bit bummed that Chapman was really playing well (of course he's not out, but he's hurtin') and though Wagmene does some dumb things at times, he can be a force at times inside.

The committee does not look at injuries. Example, Cincy a few years ago when they lost the best player in the nation during the conference tournament, they were still a number 1 seed. Wangemene is not that big of a force for us, our guards and freshmen are what drive this team.

Anybody who has seen them play this year will tell you that....

I may be wrong but I thought one of the committee member say they do look at injuries late in the season.

Yep, Musberger talked about that during the Texas-KU game (before the Wangmene injury).

They'd show the "last 4 in" "first 4 out" charts and he commented something to the effect that Lunardi pointed out the "officially" the committee doesn't take injuries into account, but that in fact they do.

Well they didn't the year Cincy was a number 1 seed as they lost, who was it Kenyon Martin, in the Conference USA tournament.

Martin was the Player of the Year, and the committee still gave them the number 1 seed.

If Wangememe is a factor in whether we make the tournament or not, we are in deeper trouble then I thought.

This is false I believe. I recall the selection committee did in fact drop Cincy to the two line after Martin went down. And the Bearcats lost early.

" 1999-00: Cincinnati was the nation's top team and Kenyon Martin was college basketball's top player. UC was ranked No. 1 in the national polls for 12 of 18 weeks and Martin made a clean sweep of the national player of the year awards (Naismith, Wooden, Rupp, Robertson, NABC). The Bearcats tied a school record for victories with a 29-4 record and won their fifth straight Conference USA regular season title. UC seemed poised for a run for the national title until Martin suffered a broken leg in the Conference USA tournament. Martin was a unanimous first team All-American with Pete Mickeal earning honorable mention honors. "

The Bearcats went from the consensus pick to win it all (and a probable overall No.1 seed) to a (not THE) No.2 seed in the Dance, lost in 2nd round:

Wangmene was at the least 5 fouls that could have been used against White, a notoriously bad free throw shooter. Now Texas doesn't have even that option, and Bond and Holmes combined for 16 fouls in 58 minutes playing time in the first two games against ISU.

I won't be that surprised to see Melchionni get some minutes on Thursday.

This tweet 16 minutes ago from KEYE-TV's Bob Ballou says Texas is not the first team out following the game between Drexel and VCU. Or does this mean we WILL be the first team out after "something." Whatever that is. I don't understand the "First Four Out" part of bracketology.

Joe Lunardi puts Drexel in the tourney despite the loss to VCU, which moves Texas to out. #UT is listed as the very first team out. #bubble

So, basically Thursday's game is a play-in game. I am going to flip the f out if it comes down to 1 or 2 points and we're on the negative end of the equation.

To clarify... If Iowa St. beats the ever-living crap out of Texas then I'll accept Texas' fate much better. If, say, we lose by a point and then we're one of the last 4 out, I'll lose sleep for days considering how many close games we lost. That's the kind of stuff that I don't handle well.
