Where to get brunch

What are some good, not overly expensive, places to get brunch around town ?

I saw Chez Zee on another thread...where else ?

Depending on how different you want it to be you can give Stubbs' Gospel Brunch a shot. Tex-Mex, BBQ and traditional fare is all you can eat and they have a Gospel show as well.

Last time I went the Mighty Sincere Voices of Navasota were performing. They were awesome. Amen.

As usual, NXNW was great. Only two of us ordered off the brunch menu -- my wife had poached eggs on crabcakes and my father-in-law had an omelet. Both were very good.

I had my usual herb-crusted rotisserie chicken. It was terrific. I don't know how NXNW serves entrees as good as their's are for < $10, but they do. The beer's good, too.

Went to Chez Zee this weekend. Food was good, prices were good, service was TERRIBLE. We ordered drinks and they didn't show up within 20 minutes so we went and got them at the bar. The bartender was like "yeah, is your server just being REALLY slow?" and we said "yes, very" and he said that happens all the time and people always get their drinks from the bar. So they're aware of the bad service and it happens "all the time" yet they do nothing about it??

The valet guy also seemed very um, challenged.

Just wanted to post this review. It's really disappointing because the place really does have such potential for an excellent brunch.

Moonshine. Lots of yummy food. Great if you are hungover.

Taverna. Dinner and Lunch suck here but for some reason, the brunch is strong.

Fado. No joke. Good breakfast grub.

Z'Tejas. Good.

Zax. Decent. Not bad.

Star Seeds. Will take some years off your life but damn good. Not really a 'brunch' place though.

Manuel's on Congress has a Sunday Jazz brunch. I went a couple times to see my brother play there - I enjoyed it.

If you are looking for a Tex Mex Brunch buffett, Iron Cactus up north used to have one that I thought was pretty good. They have your typical breakfast stuff (freshly made waffles, omlettes, etc) but also their fajitas and usually a couple of other "lunch" dishes.

Also, Trudy's has or used to have a fairly cheap Brunch Buffet that was mainly egg/migas/breakfast dishes.

looked over Moonshine's menu online and I have a few thoughts. One the place looks very nice. I also have no doubt at to the quality of the food there. BUT. $15 dollars for brunch? Maybe it is just me, but I can eat AND drink at Magnolia for that price and be stuffed. I guess if you want a brunch buffet that is probably a pretty average price. I just can eat a for an entire day for $15. Call me cheap I guess.

well, perhaps I make less money than most, but $15 for brunch seems to be a great deal to me. I also don't understand the comment that Magnolia is aggy food. I am not saying that the food is the same. Obviously the food at Moonshine is fancier/higher quality. I just don't think you call the food at Magnolia, aggy. McDonald's quality food is aggy food to me.

I think Magnolia is fine at 3 am after consuming 14 drinks.

Sober, I think the food is nasty and the place itself is dirty. I am talking Lake Austin and South Congress locations.

Moonshine is high quality food and the brunch is very extensive with a lot of different entrees. It is well worth $15. It is not overpriced.

as a rule, i follow the advice of ambulance chasing yankees from wisconsin when deciding where to eat in austin. therefore, moonshine >>>magnolia

We might be going to Fonda on Sunday after church for brunch. Never been for brunch.... Will post an unexpert review if so.

Has anyone tried Nutty Brown Cafe for brunch? They offer a brunch buffet from 11am-2pm with live music. I've never been to Nutty Brown at all but want to go for Reckless Kelly in a few weeks...

I have done the Threadgill's Gospel Brunch and really liked it. The buffet was solid, coffee was good and the music was excellent.

I agree that Magnolia is often dirty (as is Kerbey Lane Cafe), but those Eggs Zapatino will take years off your life. I mean that in the best possible way.
