When the Republicans own up to this

Also, Medicare has a higher rejection rate for services rendered than private insurance, yet the program is STILL going broke.

I know what you're thinking. "Just give us more of your tax money, and we'll make it work." This thinking is dangerous and full of fail.

Wow, some of these posts - I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I always find it interesting how much blame is placed directly on the president for the deficit problems. I think the more telling statistic is looking at control of congress during those periods. I have seen it posted before, but don't care to go find a graph or two to prove the point.

The basic facts are that the deficit was trending downward from ~2003-2007. However, in 2008 with a Democratic congress, it jumped considerably - it has stayed much higher since then.

In my mind, we can blame the presidents all we want, but I think equal blame should be placed on congress. Bush definitely did not help by pushing deregulation too far IMO and certainly has a hand in the crash in late 2008. However, villifying Bush when blindly supporting Obama and using the deficit as a basis is nothing short of lunacy from where I sit.

Yes, I suppose the Peloponnesian war and Spanish civil war were pretty bad, thanks for adding to the list.

Hitler invading an Ally is a little different than the US invading a known threat in Iraq.

I don't get what you mean about Japan- They (a regional power) attacked the US (the burgeoning superpower) and were utterly defeated by them- much worse than Iraq.

WW1 was tragic because so many people died over political reasons. 2nd worst war (to WW2) in history in terms of casualties. Yeah, worse than Iraq.

Chernobyl was bad in that it further damaged the reputation of Nuclear Power (in addition to 3 mile island), leading to a surge in coal power (vice more zero-emitting Nuclear). If you believe in global warming than this is one of the worst mistakes in history. If we had 200 more Nukes in the world instead of 2000 more coal plants- how much less would the world have heated up?

Ok, done feeding the troll. As soon as you start throwing facts up he left anyway.

^Being respectful and trying to enter into a meaningful discussion with you never worked. You refuse to admit any scintilla of a possibility that Obama might be wrong - and you continue to throw slurs at the Conservatives on this board. So, I now consider it impossible to have a meaningful discussion of issues with you - so I've stopped trying.

saahorn,

Put down the shrill propaganda and read the federal budget. We spend six trillion on Social Security and Medicare about every 4 - 5 years.

I'm not condoning the Iraq War, which I readily admit to being a mistake. However, the idea that it's a major budget driver is a BS diversion to keep from talking about what the government is actually spending its money on.

Deez, those words echo my thoughts exactly.

One thing that people seem completely incapable of doing is being critical of their own party. I absolutely agree that the Iraq war was an extremely misguided decision at the least. The real tragedy is the lives lost.

However, touting Obama as the savior of the economy is laughable. In my own industry (energy, oil & gas), we are performing well in spite of the current administration. I will also say that there have been significant numbers of jobs added within our industry...again, in spite of the current administrations efforts.

over the past few years I have heard many many Republican Pols and talking heads point out that there is blame to go all around for this crisis
if you watch any Sunday talker where there is one from each party discussing our economy you will have heard the GOp pol admit Republicans share in the blame.
The point isn't that there isn't blame, the point is to STOP the insanity.
Boehner Ryan McConnel Coburn Graham McCaincertainly Paul Rubio and Cruz etc etc etc have all repeatedly said the GOP shares the blame.

Hannity Levin Williams Carson Limbaugh Kristol Krauthammer etc etc have also pointed out the GOP shares blame

Isn't the more importan issue to STOP the free fall?
apparently not to some posters.

Well, the amnesia continues. No one wants to discuss the costs of the war. The Democrats who voted for it should be ashamed. But we know who's idea it was, who had no plan to pay for it, and who still wants to act like that money spent never really mattered. This is why that faction will keep on screaming, obfuscating, and never really addressing the problem. It was ill conceived, badly managed, and the most wasteful use of government money since Vietnam (yes, I know that was a Democratic war.) And look at the wilderness they were left in for two decades.

Moral of the story: Don't elect Presidents from Texas. And the Republicans have no record of fiscal responsibility, nor any very impressive track record here. None. Keep screaming and deflecting. It only proves my point. Learn from it. Blame it all on Obama. That's working out so well for you.
