Feel free to break it up into categories if you want... I have to go with the chile relleno with queso blanco and ranchero sauce from Maudie's.

but I think I will have to go with a frozen margarita and chicken enchiladas de mole poblano from Fonda San Miguel.

is the chile relleno at maudies fried and dry at maudies? that dish seems to be the biggest hit or miss at of all mexican food dishes imo. it can be a taste party in your mouth to a tough blah.

anyway, my fav, which is also from maudies, is their hernandaz enchiladas. but pretty much any enchilada plate from any texmex place puts me in heaven

"Chicken Fried Steak - Hill's Cafe"

Texas, do you mean the old style one with the yellow gravy or the one with the cream gravy. That yellow gravy one is the best I have had.

Cowboy Style Chicken Fried Steak at Matt's El Rancho.

Before y'all jump on me for ordering a CFS at a Tex-Mex restaurant, let me explain. It's a regular CFS, battered and fried, but then topped with chile con carne, cheese, and diced onions instead of cream gravy, and served w/ Mexican rice and refried beans. It's definitely more Tex than Mex, but it...is...awesome. To anyone who doesn't like Matt's, I would highly highly recommend going back and trying this thing. Hell, even if you do like Matt's, try it. You can thank me later.

And for those of you in Dallas, (Lil') Matt's Rancho Martinez in Lakewood serves a very close version of the same dish.

Green Chile Stew - Roaring Fork
The Elvis - Chewy's
Chocolate Souffle - Roy's
Stuffed Mushrooms - Austin Land and Cattle

tuna mignon from flemings or hong kong sea bass from Eddie V's.

migas tacos from taco X-Press would also be up there.

I dislike Magnolia Cafe even more than Kerbey Lane Cafe, but the previous post reminds me of a great breakfast/nightcap at Magnolia -- Eggs Zapatino.

Scrambled eggs with queso, peppers, and tomatoes. Good night.

you know, wise guy, some people have different palates. Holy ****, who do you think you are?

I've eaten at almost every local restaurant in Austin and love them. Just because I think something at Cheesecake tastes good doesn't mean I'm Mr. Corporate America.

Northwest Austin is no different than Dallas these days anyhow. It fully explains the survival of a Cheesecake Factory, the building of a Macy's, Neiman's, etc..
