What will it take for Shaka to survive this year?

Damn! This team has had multiple opportunities to tie, or take a lead this half, but they can’t make threes or layups.

I appreciate the fight they put up after the slow 2nd half start tonight. But Good Lord. How directionless this whole organization seems. Coleman was awful. They stopped getting the ball to Osetkowski. No scheming. Smart is anything but.

After watching WVU take out Tech, you'd think that would spark something under the team to get into the tournament. You'd think wrong I guess. NIT here we come. Shaka, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It must be mentally painful for entire team and coaching staff to know that shaka did not get it done in his first two years, did not get it done this year, and will not get it done next year. I don't know how they keep the facade up--how to find some sort of positive attitude to take them forward.

This ship is sinking. The Titanic has hit the iceberg. Abandon ship has got to be the deep feeling.

This^^^. Shaka has not shown any ability to create any system--road map if you will--for these kids to follow that creates success, which is necessary to build confidence. Shaka has nothing to give them in the crunch, no ideas, no plays, zip, zero.

And all this after how many top 10 recruiting classes. I would vote this team the most under coached team in all of America. Maybe the world.

This mess will have huge negative effect on recruiting. Hayes needs to stay; no way he is close to NBA. Coleman plays out of control 75% of time.

This,^^. Coleman was Shaka's first choice of point guard during that recruiting cycle. He was "the one" that was supposed to settle in and get the offense going. :(

Coleman's lack of progress/development, is an example of Shaka's poor coaching. The fact that Coleman hasn't elevated his assists per game, and his inability to see paths to the hoop to break the zone lead right back to Shaka.

There is no "team" offense. The standard trip down the floor is for 4 guys to stand around in different corners, then the PG passes it back-n-forth to 1 player who waits for the shot clock to go down before heaving an out of control prayer that all-too-often misses everything. Some of the shots Raimey put up last night looked like stuff you chunk up in a game of H-O-R-S-E. This team plays like they're in a pick-up game at Fonde Rec. Shoot the ball when you get it, then cry foul when you miss the entire backboard. I think Hamm shot 3 air-balls from 1 foot away last night.

My money is on someone stepping up to figure out a creative way to get help with the buyout. He's so terrible, he can't stay. I think another season here does immeasurable long term damage to fan base and recruiting...he can't stay.

I don't believe in immeasurable long term damage. A good coach can win in 4 years no matter how miserable the program is because casual fans and recruits have short term memory. Get rid of Shaka today and I bet a good coach takes the same team/talent to the sweet sixteen or elite eight in his second year. We are pretty stacked and I fully blame all the issues we have on coaching.

Watching Tennessee dismantle Miss St with motion all over the court. Its almost hard to keep track of everyone moving around. I cant believe our offense is so stagnant and the style we play. Disgusting actually.

$20 million in dead money is a big hill to climb even for Texas. One would think that Smart would have enough integrity to negotiate a resignation as he knows he is in over his head. Surely he realizes that .500 or worse at Texas will not equate to much demand for his services.

Why would he care...$20M! He's getting paid no matter how each year plays out. Whoever agreed to the first guaranteed contract needs to be hung.

CdC

So he stays because of the money and after another year of the same, the buyout will be what, around nine million and that will probably be too much guaranteed money to make a change, so we get this unwatchable crap for probably at least two more years, just great. CdC will have to hire Smart an assistant that is specifically a basketball offensive coordinator and tell Smart to let him run the offense. I would say He tell Smart to hire such an assistant, but since he has no clue as to what an offense even looks like I doubt he would have a clue as to the qualities necessary in such an assistant.

I will also add that Smart is a supersized anchor weighing down the big three sports. Football is poised to take off, baseball has already ignited the engines, and there sits Shake like a big parachute putting a drag on everything.

I am the eternal optimist and I understand the financial reasons why a change just cant be made this year, all 12.9 million of them, so maybe Smart finds that magic he had at VCU and all the close losses this year become close wins next year and this team finds itself. I guess it could happen. Maybe. Possibly. Hopefully.........

I like Shaka as a dude, but I think it's gonna get ugly for him next year.

CDC isn't doing him any favors giving him another year, IMO. He'll get roasted and run out of town half way through the season unless he pulls off a miracle.
