The more important thing to me is whether Lerner was directed by the Executive Branch to pick on groups for political reasons or otherwise. How hard is that to figure out and if found then to punish those responsible in a just way? Or do we want to set yet another precedent that says this type of behavior is ok as long as you are in power then the other side or sides better watch out lest they be hindered, at minimum, by the IRS?

Shouldn't reasonable people from all parties want this to not be the case going forward? Shouldn't that be the standard? That wrong is wrong whether it is those from your party doing it or any other party?

With the newest, but surely not the last, set of document dumps that shed more answers on specific targeting and whom was involved, do Seattle Husker and Rog35 still toe the liberal line on this simply being a ginned-up, partisan 'witch hunt'?

As of yesterday, it appears that the 'rogue agent' excuse was false and the DC IRS office was complicit in the events. It also appears that at least 1 Democrat Senator was directly involved in the request to target 'Tea Party' groups.

and indeed husker thought he saw a headline earlier this week (NPR?) that evidence now exists that progressive groups were more "discriminated" against

Now there is evidence proving no progressive/ liberal groups were targeted and there is evidence Lerner was involved
I expect him to post any day now he knows this targeting went pretty far up in the WH and was ordered to affect elections. I expect he will call for people to be punished.

zork, yes the latest round of emails showed that Lerner was in contact with at least one member of the DOJ. Lots of hand wringing about Citizens United and what could be done to curtail the effects.

I've been traveling this week for work so finally had a chance to come back to the board. Yes, I'd say there is ample evidence for an investigation. I'm not sure it should be led by Congess though because I don't think they are capable of not-politicizing investigation. This would never happen but were I in Congress I'd call for a Special Prosecutor with a time and $ limited budget.

When the Repubs take over Congress in the fall election I dion't want them trying to subvert the Constitution, either, by attacking MoveOn or George Soros or Warren Buffet to shut them up (although it will be tempting.) I would like the MSM to admit that the above named peope/groups are equally as involved in trying to influence govt. as the evil Koch brothers. Who knows - maybe someone like CBS or NBC would point out that they, along with labor unions, give more money to Dems than the Koch brothers, who are apparently Evil Incarnate, donate. Nah, that's not going to happen, because then people like Roger Rabbit would have to STFU.

We've really entered a bad place when the IRS and a DOJ is all about politics. They aren't or didn't in Lois' case do their job and decided to enter politics instead. Not saying others have done this but it was such to a lesser extent that it wasn't noticed. This group is flat out doing it and are not even trying to hide it.
