What should the USA do in Syria

So Kerry gives Assad one week to hand over the WMD? Did Congress have a vote and ok BO doing this?
from Guardian ( Kerry is in London)
"The US secretary of state has said that President Bashar al-Assad has one week to hand over his entire stock of chemical weapons to avoid a military attack. But John Kerry added that he had no expectation that the Syrian leader would comply.

Kerry also said he had no doubt that Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack in east Damascus on 21 August, saying that only three people are responsible for the chemical weapons inside Syria – Assad, one of his brothers and a senior general. He said the entire US intelligence community was united in believing Assad was responsible.

Kerry was speaking on Monday alongside the UK foreign secretary, William Hague, who was forced to deny that he had been pushed to the sidelines by the House of Commons decision 10 days ago to reject the use of UK force in Syria.

The US Senate is due to vote this week on whether to approve an attack and Kerry was ambivalent over whether Barack Obama would use his powers to ignore the legislative chamber, if it were to reject an attack.

71% in latest pool do NOT want BO to send a shot across the bow
but apparently BO doesn't care what the people think or how Congress votes or that the international community/ UN/NATO agrees now.

I really hope he does not let his hubris rule on this.

but we're talking about taking a piss on his windshield. Iran's not going to care about that.

Good news guys. According to highly placed Democratic sources the Obama Administration has already dealt a nasty surprise to the Syrian dictator. During his interview with Assad, Charlie Rose delivered a 'Bronx Cheer" from the middle of America. The CIA had supplied the NPR newsman with hard boiled eggs, a raw onion, two deep-fried bean burritos from the Matador Texas Allsups and three cans of Billy Beer that the DOD has kept on ice at the Pine Bluff Arsenal since 1979. Frankly, everyone in the administration marvels that neither Rose nor the dictator lost their composure over the methane message.

Kerry and Putin may have bumbled into a way to get BO out of this mess.

Supposedly Kerry's statement's about Syria turning in their WMDs were just off the cuff remarks and weren't approved by the administration. But Putin jumped on them and now the BO administration sees a glimmer of light that may allow BO to extracate himself with whatever shred of dignity is remaining, which isn't much.

Of course, if we go this route, it means Syria crossed the red line that BO drew (oops, I meant that the world drew) and suffers very little for it. They will not be punished for using WMD. They'll just turn in the WMD they have on the shelf and start making new ones.

I have to say that no President in my lifetime, not even Carter during the Iran hostage crisis, has looked weaker and more incompetent than BO does now. Even democrats are using words like "feckless".

I'm sure that our enemies like Iran, N. Korea, Al Queda, Russia and the like are trying to figure out what their next step will be to take advantage of the U.S's diminished capacity.

So Kerry meant what he said after he didn't mean what he said?
And BO wants to take credit?

don't forget that Russia announced last Dec that they actually had consolidated Syria's WMD into 2 locations and they were in control of them.
Of course if that were true then one wonders how Assad got the Russians to let him send off a few.

Putin, that bored schoolkid lounging in the back of the classroom must be laughing his head off.
BO just got schooled.

However if this prevents us from executing a teeny tiny even I am for it

For all the complaining about the process, does anybody think it a bad outcome that in return for us not hitting Syria they turn over their chemical weapons? Seems like even though our opinion polls and expressions of non-support from Congress have given Obama an untenable negotiating position, a pretty good outcome is in the works.

I heard an interview with a "U.N. inspector". He said what they'd be asked to do (verifiy that Syria has turned over their WMD) would probably be impossible even in peace time, but to try to do it in the middle of a vicious civil war is preposterous. They'd basically have to take Syria and Russia's word for it. If that weren't bad enough, Russia is already adding new, unacceptable demands.

This is purely a symbolic act to keep B.O. from losing face. The only good that will come from it is that the U.S. won't become involved in another unwinnable war. The bad thing is that B.O. looked so weak and incompetent that our enemies will be emboldened.
