What is your most hated intersection in Austin?

I HATE the southbound I-35 and 15th street intersection. I pray for the non-blinker using, speeding too fast, cutting you off over a solid white line bottom feeders to smack into the concrete wall. Okay, maybe not that much but I do wish they would start giving tickets at that location. That is 3 offenses I can think of. That will help keep my property tax down a bit, I hope.

any intersection that has a stop light. Austin's inability to figure out how to synchronize stop lights is embarrassing.

Last night at 10:00 my wife and I were driving home down 360, with absolutely no other cars in sight. The light turns red so that the imaginary car at the intersection can move along. This happened twice in 3 minutes.

In my 20+ years of driving in Austin, I have NEVER caught the 15th street light green when exiting from I-35 headed north - I'm convinced I have a microchip in my skull or something that trips the traffic sensors.

A close second is light at MoPac and William Cannon, specifically headed northbound on MoPac on the weekends. It is AMAZING how the light is set to let 7-8 cars through on the weekends, when there's 50-75 waiting. I take other routes on the weekends with 3-4 lights to avoid the area its so bad.

Agreeing with huffines .... how is it that Austin sucks SO BAD at getting signals sync'd and timed right? It is f-ing amazing.

Southbound Lamar at Airport....if I'm turning left. It lets like 5 cars turn, and then is red for a day and half.

Ben White and 35. Who was the ******* idiot that decided it would be a good idea to have a freeway end in a red light in the middle of town....before it gets to the airport that everyone knew was going to be there 10 years ago.

35 and 15th is a good example of intersections I hate.
I used to hate the 26th st Exit off of 35 a lot, but now that you can't exit there right away it is a lot better.
71 and 35 either leaving 35 or trying to go North on it is horrible. It will be a lot better in October though when that overpass is supposedly supposed to be done.

Oh, amn, that 35 and 15th intersection is awful all the way around. Heading southbound, the light turns green for 15 seconds. FIFTEEN. And there is never any cars waiting to turn at 15th, only those of us waiting on the feeder. And exiting northbound - that light I've caught ONCE. Once again, never any cross traffic. And cops waiting underneath the overpass for red light runners. I've been tempted.

And it boggles the mind how the Guadalupe lights through downtown can timed so perfectly, but in the campus area (the Drag area) be such a mess. And how the Lamar lights are not timed, but the Guadalupe lights are. AARRGGH!

And any Congress light sucks my ***.

Ben White and 35 - bad
William Cannon and MopPac - DoT planners need a beating for this one
ANY light on 360 - whoever sets the timers for these should be hung upside down by fishhooks through their genitalia

FM 1325 & IH 35. Now officially the busiest intersection in the state. It's a *****, with La Fronterra on the West, and The Wall Mart/Target malls on the east, along with Dell. You can wait a lifetime for a light change.

westbound on brodie at william cannon is a ***** on the weekends, it is backed up about 10 cycles, plus probably every other weekend there is a wreck there that takes about 4 hours to clear.

I lived on the East side of Mopac between Wiliam Cannon and 71 for about two years, and had to deal with this stupid intersection to get home - had to go all the way to William Cannon and cut back around.

On the whole timing of lights things, Austin didn't want to pay the money to put in a system that would regulate this a couple of years ago b/c was too expensive - but it needs to be fixed.

290 and William Cannon is Terrible but not as bad as 35 and Ben White, I will do anything to avoid that light....and the rose selling ************* that think people actually want to buy those ****** *** roses.

The turning (center) lane on Lamar between 5th & 6th street. When it's busy, that lane is packed w/ cars wanting to turn left, it's impossible for cars to get in if the lane isn't moving.

I cant remember the cross street, but it is on Lamar, right in front of McBride's gun shop...a friend works there, and every time I go in there some idiot almost slams into me, and my friend has says he sees a bad wreck there at least twice a week.

It's not the worst but this always aggravates me. Southbound Mopac exiting at 38th. To get to east 38th, you have to merge with cars trying to go south on Mopac. Not a single driver wrapping around from westbound 38th to SB Mopac seems to comprehend the YIELD signs. Then they don't leave you any room to get over, so it's a production to get over or beforced to get back on Mopac and exit Windsor.

Reminds me of the old Central/Northwest Highway "interchange" in Dallas. And that's not a good thing.

I visited Austin recently and was surprised at how poorly the traffic lights are coordinated. Traffic would not be so bad if the lights had sensors as they do in other big cities. Austin was beautiful but the traffic lights were very frustrating.

Ben White and 35. There is pretty much no way around it if you want to get to the airport from the south side of town or to the south side of town from the airport. If someone does know a good way around this craphole please tell me. Construction there will be completed during 2010 at this rate.

I remember when I first moved to town and I needed to be at the airport for an appointment on a Friday afternoon. I alloted myself 30 minutes to get there from Jester. So being the freshman that I was, I took 35 to ben white. By the time I got to the airport I was about 1 hour late (1hr 30 minute trip). This was and still is horrible. Fortunately I now know about MLK.

620 & I-35 eastbound sucks the big one, especially if that gawddam gravel train has clogged 620 at Chisholm Trail for 10 freakin' minutes.

KerrHorn82:

Take William Cannon across 35 to Pleasant Valley. Cut over to Stassney, turn right, and this will turn into Montopolis, which hits 71 close to riverside. Much better than screwing w/ 35-71 intersection.

Ben White and I-35 is bad now, also, 29th street (between lamar and guadaluoe) is a nightmare right now because half the road is closed for construction.

Just wait until the start doing the "improvements" to the Drag. That is gonna SUCK! It will affect every other surface street for blocks in any direction.

I HATE the interesction on South Lamar just before 290-- the one by the Olive Garden!! There's like 20 different directions where the traffic comes from, you ALWAYS have to wait it seems!! Makes me grumpy just thinking about it...
