What is the best sports movie ever?

Saw Raging Bull though I think it was a good movie I don't think it is a movie I would see again. Now that list is small I would say

Hoosier

Bull Durham

Caddyshack

Pride of the Yankees was good by the way watched it one night. A good classic.

Field of Dreams
Hoosiers
Bull Durham
Grand Prix
Breaking Away
2006 Rose Bowl Game
Bad News Bears
On Any Sunday
Riding Giants
The Endless Summer
Dogtown and Z-Boys

Raging Bull period.

Rudy blows. Eveytime I hear someone say how much they like Rudy, I know that's a person who likes crap.

Raging Bull is a "great film" but I'm not sure it's really a sports movie. Boxing is not central to the plot, it's just that the main character is a boxer.

The best sports movie of all time is Bull Durham.

Certainly not the "greatest sports movie ever", but if Bevo Daddy is going to put Caddyshack on the list (and it is a classic) then I have to throw out . . . .

King Pin and/or Rounders

Back to the original question:
Baseball: Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, The Natural, Major League
Football: Rudy, Remember the Titans, Brian's Song (original)
Hockey: Slap shot
Basketball: Hoosiers

Too tough to call.

The greatest sports movie of all time is Kingpin.

Other greats include, in no particular order:

Grand Prix (Incredible race re-creation....a clip)
Dust to Glory (Baja 1000 documentary. Must see for all race fans!)
LeMans

Downhill Racer (ditto Grand Prix)

When We Were Kings
Cinderella Man
Raging Bull
The Setup
Million Dollar Baby

Slap Shot

The Hustler

Endless Summer
Big Wednesday

Dogtown and Z-Boys

Ken Burns' 'Baseball'
Major League (best baseball movie...ever)
Bull Durham
Fear Strikes Out

Hoop Dreams
Hoosiers
Blue Chips

North Dallas Forty

BTW, many of the movie already mentioned aren't really sports movies, imho, as much as movies with sports as a prop. Field of Dreams, for example, is not really a baseball movie. It's a movie about hopes and dreams. Major League and Bull Durham are baseball movies.

...and Rounders?

Poker is a game, not a sport.

I havent seen Hoosiers, but if it has more sports movie cliches than Remember the Titans that is quite an achievement.

Dodgeball

Seriously, Hoosiers is not just the greatest sports movie of all time but he greatest movie ever. I went to see it the day it opened here ( dallas area ). It was so good I went home and called my nephew in the Tyler area and told him that I was going to drive out the next day and take him to see it. He was playing high school basketball at the time and of course, just loved basketball. Anyways, he and I and my sister went to see it in Tyler. He was as blown away as I was. He watched it so many times that he literally memorized it. He is now a head basketball coach at the high school level and still watches it a couple of times a month

Damn, I forgot about Cinderella Man. Have to add that to my list.

Rocky, The Natural, Hoosiers, Cinderella Man. Those are my top 4.

i'd say it's between hoosierrs, rocky, raging bull and million dollar baby. funny how boxing is the backdrop for so many great movies.
when i was a kid, i loved "the champ", but haven't seen it in 20 years or so.

Ben-Hur.

I think there was some other stuff in there to frame the story, but it was really all about a chariot race, right?
