just curious as to what seed do the Longhorns deserve in the tournament and what it will really be? I think that we deserve a 12 seed but will end up being an 11 seed.

Unfortunately I think we'll be a 9, we might have played ourselves up to an 8. I'd be thrilled if we got a 7. You have us way too low.

Tempest, sure we have played well the last 5 games, but we lost to many games that we should have won like Nebraska, Kansas st( big lead), Colorado, Texas Tech, Virgina just to name a few.

Most projections have Texas as a 9-10 seed. That seems reasonable after watching them be listed at 11-12. They had a great run to fuel the rise.

I went over the brackets, not paying attention to specific teams, but to rankings, and at 8-9, the Horns will meet either a 1 or 2 in the second game. Nothing will be easy but they are capable of reaching the sweet 16. Who would have thought we would even be discussing their seeding in the NCAAs after that collapse following the second Baylor game?

Creme's opinion is that we played our way up to a #7 and our reward is LSU in the second round in Baton Rouge. Does anyone think we played our way up to a 6? Which could result in a second round encounter with...DUKE!!

Oh great. LSU again! (?) It's bad enough they whipped our butts in Seattle a few years back. It was hard to sit through the game let alone the fact that their band was making fun of how horrible our band was (maybe the good band was with the men). I think we are in the range of #8-#9 seed. Probably the latter.

I'd be pleasantly surprised with a #7 seed, and ecstatic with a #6 seed.

In the brackets I've seen, including the one on this thread, I keep saying Arizona State as a #6 seed. Can someone explain this to me? Why beat them on their homecourt, and they even lost at Texas Tech.

How are they a #6 seed, and higher than us? While I'm sure they finished "higher" in the Pac 10 race than we did in the Big 12, do they also have a higher RPI/SOS than us?

Looking at the RPI, ASU should not be a #6 seed. I'm starting to believe we may have a very good argument for that #6 seed . . .

It is difficult to gauge seeding with this squad...let's face it, they have been Jeckyl and Hyde all season long. Too many holes being dug in the first half of games with hellacious comebacks in the second half. We seem to routinely put up 28-33 points in the first half and then hang 45 or so against someone in the second half while clamping down...and from a tournament perspective, which version of the team do you try to seed???

Remember that the NCAA would prefer to see competitive games and once we got out of the first round, we really cannot afford to be a team that digs those early holes. The Committee will also be aware of that fact. Does the team have the talent and ability to hang with anyone out there? Absolutely. But they have yet to put a complete game together against any of the quality opponents, and that is a big black mark that I believe would potentially restrict us to (at best) an 8 or a 9.

I think the underachieving tendencies of the Big 12 in the NCAA tournament, Baylor 2005 notwithstanding, will also keep us from getting a 6 seed. If purely seeded on RPI, the 1-8 seeds would be

1:
Tennessee
Connecticut
North Carolina
Rutgers

2.
Maryland
Stanford
LSU
Texas A&M

3.
Louisville
Duke
Baylor
Old Dominion

4.
Oklahoma
Notre Dame
California
UTEP

5.
Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Virginia
Vanderbilt

6.
Oklahoma State
Chattanooga
Kansas State
Liberty

7.
Texas
Marist
Western Kentucky
George Washington

8.
Syracuse
Utah
Gonzaga
Wyoming

I think Texas A&M definitely gets the 2 seed, Baylor holds on for dear life to the 3 or gets replaced by Cal, and Oklahoma possibly gets bumped to a 5. I really don't know what to make of teams like Chattanooga, UTEP, and Marist. I'm more interested in seeing potential team matchups than what seed they are; If we have to play a 1 seed in the second round, I think we match up best with Tennessee or Rutgers. North Carolina is Texas A&M on steroids and cocaine; Connecticut is just a machine.

i think we deserve a #6 (possibly a #5), but i'm not the selection committee and we'll see what they think tomorrow. i know the ncaa has their own methodology, but i think saragin is usually a fair judge. he has us #18 in "pure points" and #21 in "overall rating." maybe a split with OU, two out of three with baylor (almost a sweep), and so many other close games lost will weigh in our favor. again, we'll see tomorrow. i wouldn't be surprised to see a set-up with duke myself.

Looking at the polls today, I see that OU and Baylor paid only a small penalty for their respective manners of exit in the tourney.

We did at least manage 24 vote points, so somebody paid at least a little bit of attention to what the girls did over the past few weeks...the 24 'points' puts us in the top 30 for the AP poll. Based on that, it is not out of the realm to see a seven-seed, but since we couldn't even crack the top-25 in the final poll, a six-seed just doesn't make sense even considering that there are five squads from the Big 12 that are ranked #16 or better...

At this point, though...let's get to the selections so we can start booking travel...

I think it's a bit silly to say we "should have" beaten the Big XII champions just like we should have beaten Tech and CU.

I couldn't agree more - about the "where we were just a few shorts weeks ago", but I think we'll be an 8/9 seed.
