What bowl?

It’d be a hoot if we not only played them but hung in and what the heck beat em

This could be a program changing kind of game. If we lose by 14 points who cares we're in only year two of the Herman era and we made it to the Sugar Bowl....we're well on our way back. If we hang to the end its now only year two and we beat OU and hung tough with another one of the best teams in America. If we beat them we're back and the country will see it. Two of the three scenarios will lock down recruiting and the third will not hurt.

We'll have a tough time with Georgia, considering they may be the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country.
I do not like this match up. I was at the Cotton Bowl the last time Texas played the #1 or #2 team in the nation who felt slighted for not making the National Championship game and it was not pretty.

Vs. Georgia in a bowl game. Golly, That went so well last time.

:brickwall:
It was ok for 3+ quarters. I saw nothing from Georgia against Alabama except a team that could not handle the 4th quarter. Sound familiar? If Georgia could not defend what Alabama calls receivers, no way they can handle Texas' receivers. The issue, as it has been all year, can Same find the open receiver down the middle of the field?

If we beat Georgia, huge.

If we get blown out by Georgia, that is far worse for our final rankings than winning the Alamo Bowl.

This year, without a defensive line and having a team that is not ready for teams of Georgia’s caliber, I would rather take the likely Alamo Bowl win that would boost our ranking, build momentum for next year and get 10 wins over the likely loss to Georgia.

Georgia could have a hangover from the Bama game and we could play our best game of the year and win, and I hope that happens as it is the best case scenario, but I would choose a 65% chance to win the Alamo Bowl over a top 15 10-2 Washington State over a 30% chance to beat a top 10 10-2 Georgia any day.

College football is about total wins. While beating Georgia would be huge, losing to Georgia does nothing for us and getting blown out by Georgia would be very bad regardless of the year. Did getting blown out by Miami help Texas or David McWilliams? No. Did getting blown out by Penn State in the Fiesta and Virginia Tech in the Sugar help John Mackovic? No.

I wonder if Aggy would be scared to play Georgia, too? Probably not.

I guess I'm one of the few remaining that still believes we're TEXAS.

I want the Sugar Bowl, not the 7-11 Big Gulp Bowl.

I would be thrilled to play Georgia. Frankly I think we match up well and again, Herman does well as an underdog and we have been very close in every game this year.

Aggy is not scared to jump off a bridge if it is tradition. Hey, if I thought we even had a 45% chance to win, I would be all in, but I cannot get excited about likely being blown out. I do not know what good that does. My confidence in Hager versus the Georgia offensive line is near 0.

I guess I'm one of the few remaining that still believes we're TEXAS.

Texas beat USC for the 2005 national championship and lost to Kansas in 2016. My opinions of our chances for a victory depend on how good we are. We have more in common with the 1990 Texas Longhorns, barely beating a bunch of opponents, than we do with the 2008 Texas Longhorns. We also have a lot in common with Mackovic teams with a good offense and bad defense that can upset people or be horribly exposed. Right now, we look like this will result in a McWilliams Cotton Bowl or Mackovic Fiesta/Sugar Bowl. I hope I am wrong. I would love to beat Georgia as that would be the best case scenario. I just cannot say I honestly think that is likely.

I want the Sugar Bowl, not the 7-11 Big Gulp Bowl.
Plus, I have club level tickets to the Alamo Bowl and I hardly think taking on a 10 win, top 15 Mike Leach led Washington State is the "7-11 Big Gulp Bowl".

We can defend the run better when you can focus on it. In the big 12 you have to be ready for anything at all times. Our O-line would have to hold up and we can win if they do.

Texas doesn't want The Pirate in San Antonio since Texas cannot put up 70 which is what it is going to take to beat Wazzo. The Pirate will be out for blood and will treat the game as a National Championship game.

Orlando’s Kryptonite is an air-raid style Big 12 offense. But the same could be said for every single DC in the country. I like the matchup of Orlando versus a traditional SEC offense. If LSU can hang with Georgia (and beat them by 3 touchdowns), we can hang with Georgia. Bring on the Dawgs!

I don’t feel good about hoping we play lesser opponents like the SEC does for Aggy - matching them up only against teams they feel are inferior. Uncool, unTexas. I bet UCF isn’t afraid of the Dawgs.

A lot of folks here have fallen for the media's SEC propaganda. What are the SEC's most noteworthy OOC wins this season? Alabama over Louisville? Florida over Miami? Georgia over Austin Peay? Keep in mind that Georgia barely hung on to beat OU in the playoff game back in January: 54-48

I am all for playing teams when we are good. I am not for getting blown out if we are not that good. Getting murdered by Miami in the Cotton Bowl, Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl and Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl did not help our program or recruiting. With A&M letting the SEC in Texas at their and the entire state’s expense, we have to recruit more against Georgia now and them blowing us out would be no bueno.

I will also note that Washington State lost to USC, so no, they do not scare me. Georgia’s running game against our d-line & Hager does scare me.

That said, I hope everyone else is right and we beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. That would be fantastic and the best thing that could happen.

Georgia lost to LSU by 20. We might not have the same personnel, but we can beat Georgia. Also, that would also be the marquee bowl game outside of the playoffs. Let’s do this.

Well, sometimes a team feeling slighted plays worse - Texas in 2003, California in 2004. But I don't think that will apply to Georgia anyway, they know they are unlikely to get in because they have 2 losses.

1998 Kansas State against Purdue in the Alamo Bowl (Drew Brees or no Drew Brees).
2008 Texas against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. We won, but we definitely were down when we played them.

That said, I have to agree that Georgia knew they needed to win against Bama and are unlikely to play down. I still hope the double chokes against bama have negative psychological effects and they do play badly.

I would take any match up with this team. We have obvious improvements to make but we have several strengths and are gritty, tough and improving. Playing a complete GA team would be a far better experience for our team and an indicator of performance in my opinion. We’ve beaten OU once and hung with them yesterday despite a bevy of miscues and bad breaks. That gives me confidence we can do the same with GA.

It would be back-to-back S-E-C S-E-C games with LSU first up next season. :hookem:

Good, being in a New Year's Six bowl in Herman's second year is a good thing. One thing about Herman's teams they play above themselves when underdogs and i expect a similar performance New Year's day, Texas should want the challenge not shrink from it.:hookem:

Until yesterday I would have agreed with that statement. However, Texas was not ready to play yesterday for some reason. ou scored when they had to, and the Texas offense was MIA for most of the game against what could go down as the worse defense ever to make it in the CFP.
