What are the odds we can keep Coach Boom

60 percent Coach Boom's here two years. Less than 5 percent he's here longer. Over a hundred percent Davis is here as long as he wants to be.

Why Major? Why not? Just because really...Could it have anything to do with the fact he's a very quick learner, charismatic, and has been since his playing days, and he's shown a love of all things UT that makes him a fan favorite for the last decade? Sounds like a pretty good plan to me, but nothing is etched in stone just yet.

I forgot to mention that Major's showing signs of being a Mack Brown-quality recruiter one day soon, too. Not to jump the gun, but what's not to like...I'm not sure I'd want us to be playing any team he's coaching once he's up to speed.

Just keep your hands off the latest Auburn d-coordinator.

It seems to me that the coaches that consistently produce the national title contenders these days are all defensive-minded coaches. Stoops, Tuberville, Saban, Carroll... While Major is the more popular choice and would probably make for a great head coach, aren't we setting ourselves up for a revolving door D coordinator position again if when Mack leaves our new HC is offensive-minded?? Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I don't see him ever going to Clemson, the A&M of South Carolina:

Clemson College formally opened in July 1893 with an enrollment of 446. From the beginning, the college was an all-male military school. It remained this way until 1955 when the change was made to "civilian" status for students and Clemson became a coeducational institution. In 1964 the college was renamed Clemson University as the state Legislature formally recognized the school's expanded academic offerings and research pursuits.

I also don't subscribe to the "MUST HAVE HC EXPERIENCE" crap often spewed around here. Stoops seemed to work out ok, as have others. If you've got the right guy working for you already, he's a known commodity-keep him. You're not assuming less risk merely by getting an HC from another school.

With the possible exception of charismatic that sounds like a description of David McWilliams 20+ years ago. I doubt the Administration has a defined transition plan for the post-Mack Brown era at this point.

Maybe it's just me, but I get the impression that he wants a huge job, like Bob Stoops got, and not just a decent one, like Chizik got.

I don't know what kind of discussions preceded his hiring, but if I am right, I think the minimum he would want is Tennessee.

I liked Greg Robinson and though he was a good DC, better than anything we'd had at Texas recently. But, I really don't believe that GR was an eliet DC, the kind we should have on the 40 Acres.

Make no mistake, we had a strong defense in 2004, and I directly give GR (and Tommey) credit for that quick turnaround, but I think part of the reason we were so happy with Robinson was because we had all sort of been left with a bad tase in our mouths those last few years of Reese. Chizik took us to a higher level than we had with GR. Robinson gets credit for laying the foundation, but Chiz to it up another notch. We fell back down last year, but Muschamp has again elevated us to where Texas should always be.

Right now you could have our o-coordinator for the price of a plane ticket. Interesting comments on where you think he might go. For those who think he is only looking at very high profile jobs - think some more. Everything I saw last December had him accepting the Arkansas job until Petrino took it.

I would assume that a stud DC considers the same things we all do when another job opportunity opens. Such as are we currently in a position where we are still learning such that a quick move may set us back in the long run. Most people assume Boom will jump at any offer from a legitimate school. I do think there is something to be said for his sticking around Mack for a while to learn how he runs the Tx program. It is a great opportunity for someone that has many years to decide what head job he takes. Given that, I think as long as we are competing for a NC he will stick around (at least for a couple more years).

It all depends on the guy. Some people are determined to advance to the point at which they are no longer competent. Some people start out knowing what they want and work to achieve that. If Will is in the first group, he'll leave soon. If he's in the second group, there are a lot of reasons to believe that he will stick around.

Texas can and probably will make Muschamp the highest-paid assistant coach in college football, and nowhere he might go will Muschamp find a better situation and learning experience for himself than right here. He already knows he'll get his chance to bump up to head coach, so unless he's hell-bent on becoming one next year, he's likely to be around at least one more year. Coach Boom is one assistant coach who can afford to wait, and be choosy about where he goes as a head coach.
