Weekly Prediction Results and Season Overall Standings

I'm finding my score predictions generally suck every week. Also, predicting Horn games this season has been somewhat painful....
Concur...and injury situation has me looking to a score picking portal for transfer LOL!

On the bright side, and keeping me from the ledge, is that price on Bijan for Heisman dropped again. Vegas paid attention even in the loss...

I hope for his sake he continues to have a great year. A rematch against Oklahoma could do it.

I hate the feeling I have right now but I must do my job.

MilitaryHorn,

Lots of data! I know!

I had submitted:
47 Texas
41 OU

just an FYI.

I think if there was only one thread it would help. I entered Prediction for OU game and it never got recorded. I guess I entered it on the wrong thread.

I sure would hate to lose out on the $100k first prize because of a clerical error.

What's the formula for Total points?
Total points for those who had incorrect picks' is the sum total of Point Differential + MOV + Total Score Differential - Actual MOV

In your prediction from last week it would break down as follows:

Actual Score OU 55 Texas 48; MOV 7; Total Points 103

Your Prediction OU 20 Texas 31; MOV 11; Total Points 51

Point Differential: OU 55 - 20 = 35; Texas 48-31 = 17; 35 + 17 = 52

MOV: 11 + 7 + 7 = 25

Total Points: 103 - 51 = 52

Actual MOV: 7

Total Points: 52 + 25 + 52 - 7 = 122

I know MOV looks screwed up but the way I have things set up in Excel I had to subtract the Actual MOV to account for the way it is calculated. Since you had an incorrect pick for the game, meaning, you pick Texas to win by 11 points or in terms of a spread for betting -11. The actual MOV was +7 by OU.

To account for picking the wrong winner compared to those who picked the correct winner, but might have the same MOV, it is calculated as absolute values. As @Sangre Naranjada put it, think of it as the difference of those two numbers on a number line.

MOV Line.jpg

A correct pick will not have this since it would only be the difference of the predicted MOV and the Actual MOV as in the case of zuckercanyon's predition. The prediction had OU winning by -4. When his Total Score is calculated he was given 3 to his Total Score. Those who predict the correct winner do not have the actual MOV subtracted like those who did not pick the correct winner.

Correct picks' Total Score is calculated as follows:

Point Differential + MOV + Total Score Differential

In zuckercanyon's case it would be as follows:

Actual Score OU 55 Texas 48; MOV 7; Total Points 103

Prediction OU 38 Texas 34; MOV 4; Total Points 72

Point Differential: OU 55 - 38 = 17; Texas 48-34 = 14; 17 + 14 = 31

MOV Differential: 7 - 4 = 3

Total Points: 103 - 72 = 31

Total Points: 31 + 3 + 31 = 65

The reason so many Incorrect Picks were scored lower than zuckercanyon, even though he was the lowest total who picked the winner, was those individuals had the best prediction based on the actual score for each team.

Even with the penalty of picking the wrong winner, their score was so close to actual score for each team with total points included put them ahead the first poster who picked the correct winner.

I hope this helps clarifies it for you. After the season we as a community can discuss changes to implement for next year.

Congrats to @Run Pincher Pincher for our first perfect prediction for the year. Sucks that it was a losing prediction for Texas but still great selection and should be recognized.

Predicting these games has become more painful every week....

@LonghornCatholic can you offer up some Hail Mary's or something to halt this terrible skid and comfort our suffering fanbase?

Asking for several friends....

I was talking with a buddy, also a Texas Grad and Horn fan, about the current situation with the team, I said to him maybe we can say a few Hail Mary's before the next game. He replied, "Remember, I'm Jewish." So, I changed it and said, "Ok. I'll say a few Hail Mary's and you can say a few Hail Moses." We had a good laugh about that.

If the Horns lose to KU, I will continue to be a 2021 season suffering supporter but I will head for the fan portal for the rest of the season to UTSA!
