Week 1 Prediction Thread: Texas vs Rice...Let the Games Begin

Just as a side note, I don't know who all is aware that there were a couple changes to the rules in college football for the current season. The games will be much shorter in time. I think the days of 60+ games will be very rare unless there are a bunch of long play scores or a ton of turnovers.

Food for thought.
Man great post. Might be a great week to take a bunch of unders.

ì don't like the rule changes to make it a quicker game.
OTH, I do feel for the players playing in 100 degree heat.
2nd teamers will get their share òf playing time.
hmmm, average scores of games will be lower. I might have to change my prognostication.
I hate the rule change, and I really don’t get it. Doesn’t longer games mean more TV ad revenue?

We wait 8 months for 13, 14 or 15 games. That’s all. And now they shorten the games. For what?

If the goal is just to get closest there's probably no real reason to stick to common numbers anyway, but since it got a surprising amount of attention, I was figuring they go for a "what do we have to lose" 2 point conversion in the 4th quarter against our 3rd stringers (see Mississippi State in our bowl game way back in the Ricky Williams days).

Unfortunately we ALL know the reason games are longer...but of course, TV rules so the ads will be longer because there won't be as much opportunity for commercials with the clock not stopping as often. The almighty $$$$$

That’s my thought too Lucky. No way is TV going to lose their add time so that means either more often or longer commercials. The amount of game time interrupted by tv time outs already irritates me so I can imagine how bad it is going to get!

I'm not a TV ad guy, but wouldn't it just cost more now to have your ads shown during a shortened game?

What am I missing here?

I changed my pick.
The games seem to be shorter but the commercial pods seem to have more ads stuck in them. Last night I was able to shave during a commercial break and not miss a play. Another I was able to take a crunch and not miss a play.
