From President Hartzell 2/10/2023...

Dear UT Community,
Yesterday, The University of Texas at Austin and the Big 12 Conference announced we agreed to terms enabling our participation in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) starting in summer 2024, pending final approval from the UT System Board of Regents.
Given the rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape and the impact this move will have on our athletics program, student athletes and the university, I am grateful we are able to accelerate our transition in a way that will benefit all the involved institutions.
Our top-ranked athletics program is an integral part of our university. It is called our front porch, but it is also our connective tissue, joining our student athletes, broader student body, alumni, faculty, staff and fans. Texas Athletics is a source of pride and excellence, bringing more incredible talent and passion to our campus.
This move will allow our student athletes to compete against the very best, on the biggest stages, across all of our men’s and women’s sports. It will further strengthen our global brand and reputation, leading more people to consider our university as a place to study, teach and work – and to wear burnt orange and get their Horns Up. Our academic mission will benefit as a result, as will our current and future graduates who will have even more reasons to come back to campus for a game, or to get together in countless locations across the globe to cheer on their Longhorns.
The Big 12 has been our conference home for nearly three decades, and we look forward to a final season of spirited competition with our respected friends and rivals. We will leave with many amazing memories, and at least 213 regular and postseason Big 12 conference championships.
As we look to the future, I am grateful to Chairman Kevin Eltife and the Board of Regents for their tremendous leadership throughout this transition, and to our outstanding athletics director, Chris Del Conte, for his guidance and ingenuity in helping us reach this milestone. I am also grateful for our student athletes, staff members and coaches as they continue to bring pride to our university by how intensely they prepare and compete.
I look forward to experiencing the next chapter of Longhorn athletics with you. If you yell “Texas,” I’ve got the “Fight!”

Hook 'em!

And for those that we DON'T respect (lookin' at you, lubbuttock) a hefty & heartfelt 1 finger salute.

Ooops, looks like we better hold that salute.

Lubbock in the rear view mirror! But the aggies straight ahead. I’ll take that but never playing the aggies again was my dream as well.

F the sec...we're coming to drink your whiskey, have our way with your women & leave your crying children asking, "Daddy, why wasn't I born in Texas like the cool kids?" (Note: not ALL kids born in Texas are cool...witness aggys.)

I admit to having F' Ou coming with us to sec but it is right.
Yes our hated BUT respected rival.
I can't see the ou fans shouted sec sec sec

BTW, I never liked the move. Still don’t:

“If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.”

Oh well. It’s all about the money…

I don't like the SEC.
Nobody asked for my opinion however.
I just hope we kick everybody's *** and become the most hated team in the conference.
The sense I am getting from this board is that now everyone is giddy to be joining the SEC. Matter of time before this fan base becomes like the fan bases already there. Texas fans will tout how good they are because they are in the SEC. It will happen. Seems to be already.

Do I hope Texas wins? Sure. Will it ruin me for several days afterwards like it used to? Hell no.

So, a thread titled with three (!!!) exclamation points announcing Texas leaving the Big 12 seems to indicate joy. Sorry if I misread that.

HIC, I don’t think so. In fact, if we did a survey of opinions with selections, like “thrilled,” “in favor of, with reservations,” “opposed to,” and “disgusted,” there might be a fairly even split.

The issue (as we all know), has been, what other choices did we have? The PAC-whatever was a great option 10 years ago but because of how Larry Scott failed to seize on the opportunity (complicated by the LHN), that didn’t happen. The B1G has probably always been on the table, but the general consensus has been against such a move. Staying in the Big 12 has never been particularly attractive because it doesn’t attract the kind of money that the SEC and the B1G does. So to me, this is the lesser of many evils, but still not a wonderful choice.

we don’t become filthy pigs by wallowing in the same filth as them.

We didn't with SMU when they had 38 Nissan Z cars;
Or when they became the first program to buy a mother a new house.

We didn't when an SWC rival killed a kid on steroids & hushed it up.

Our coaches didn't intentionally lie to recruits to get their best friend and then **** on the kid on move-in day.

Didn't change a thing when a kid shows up with a list of demands and compensation from each school for us to match.

Did we change our requirements when a school admitted to the SWC had ZERO academic requirements and graduated about 2% of their scholarship players?

We have a chance to walk into the SEC and be the shining example of how to win and do it the right way. Georgia & Florida are Tier One schools that have followed how we got there and stay there.

As the Duke said it’s all about attacking the money, period end of discussion. Only a few are happy about it but it is what it is and all I can say positive about it is I’d rather play Tenn, Ala, and Ga than TT and Wacko. But that’s just me. Who knows, 5 years from now I may miss TT and Bailor,,,,,,,, nah.

Maybe not so fast the deal with the devil in the far right column if this is true
