WBI Tip Off Classic this w/e

Nneka was the leading scorer with 25 pts. She had 12 rebounds. Chas had 23 pts and several clutch FTs at the end to keep the Horns ahead. Empress added 10 pts and led with 4 steals.

Horns outrebounded St. John’s 47 to 26. Other stats: Texas was 21-47 (44.7%) from the field, 1 of 6 (17%) from BTA and 27 of 37 (73%) from the FT line . Nneka had the only 3pter and Chas did not attempt a trey.

St. John’s was 20 of 56 (35.7%) from the field, 7-14 (50%) from BTA and 13-19 (68.4%) from the FT line.

Really impressed with the passing and D. Couldn't do all that throughout the game without Shaun working with them on conditioning.

Great start to the Aston era. And we would probably have to go back a ways to find the last time we had two 20+ pt scorers in a game vs a ranked opponent. I said earlier in the year that my expectations for this team were ambitious, but I feel better and better about that each week

I was at the game, and boy was it fun! Nneka was a beast, as was Chass. Empress is impressive, particularly on defense and Celina had a great start to her career here. The defense, particulary in the 2nd half, was stifling. Even when we had too many turnovers in the first half, we kept it close.

It is also obvious that Shaun, our strength and conditioning coach, and Lisa, the athletic trainer, have done a great job. I'm impressed with how many minutes Cokie is playing after last year and how energetic she is. The whole team seems to be ready to run for the whole game.

It's gonna be a fun ride folks.

Congrads on the huge win Horms especially over a nationally ranked very good St. Johns team. Babhorn thank you for all the updates during the game your the best

Great to see Nneka put up such great numbers! And that 30-10 first half rb advantage is sweet; can't imagine how we could be down at halftime with such a dominating performance on the boards. Also good to see Empress is as good as advertised on defense. Great first game and really looking forward to today's contest.

Imani, like Cokie, didn't have the best stats, but I'm thankful we have her out there. She is raw and somewhat unformed, in my opinion, but the potential is huge. I love how obvious it is that she wants to learn and get better. In time she will get some great skills and valuable discipline and be huge for us.

Kinda reminds me of Nneka. Raw talent, needed some discipline and boy is she stepping up in that regard. now. i think what we see from these players in January, much less March, will be different and so much better.

like hornsgeek mentioned, Imani is pretty raw offensively. But you can see the potential in practice. She will get better because she is willing to work at it and she has a pretty good model in Cokie. For now, I expect that she will be grabbing rebounds and affecting others on D, even if that does not show up on the boxscore.

Horns will face Hofstra at 1pm. They will have a huge size advantage inside with the Pride’s tallest player being transfer McKenzie Kudron at 6-3. She only played one minute in their tight win over Stetson yesterday. Their tallest starter is 6-0 Shante Evans at the F position. Two others are also 6-0. A surprise was the offense provided by Annie Payton off the bench as she led Hofstra with 17 pts, hitting 50% of her shots: 6-12 from the field; 4-8 from BTA, and 1-2 from the FT line.

Horns down 34-30 at the half. Hofstra has hit 4-11 treys while Texas is 0-5 from BTA. Otherwise, it's pretty close in # of FGs and FTs. Horns have grabbed 32 rebs to the Pride's 15 but have 12 TOs to Hofstra's 7. Hofstra's Evans has 3 fouls which could be factor later in the game.

Horns up 45-40 with 15:45 to go. Horns are starting to take advantage inside with Nneka and Cokie. Love the energy that Brady is bringing to the floor.

12 minutes to go, Horns up 51-42. Hofstra's Evans just picked up foul # 4 trying to block Nneka's shot.

Horns putting some distance between themselves and Hofstra but it has been difficult. Horns up 60 to 46 with 7:13 to go.

Now 68-48 Texas with five minutes to go! Horns D is getting some baskets. Sounds like Celina has some really quick hands.

Horns are going to end up with 7 players with at least 6 rebounds and three in double figure pts: Nneka with 26, Chas with 18 and Cokie with 11.

Nneka is awesome! and only a sophomore. So much improvement. Brady brings a lot of energy. They are playing better as a team and are making some good passes. 62 rebounds. Wow!
