Want say in marching band half time shows?

Funny that the poll doesn't offer "marches" or movie music. Those were the best things in the old days before high school band contests ruined half times. Now you get diagonal backwards "marching" to broadway tunes nobody outside of the drama department has ever heard before.

Beck:

I want a Chamillionaire show featuring Chamillionaire as he sings tribute to Vince Young when we retire his number.

Also, just maybe, we can have like a Lynyrd Skynyrd show with Jesus with some giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals with like an angel band and I'll be in the front row hammered drunk!

All sound ideas I think.

Not my website, just someone on the band Creativity Committee. If you have any other ideas, let me know (post on here or PM me) so I can forward them for you.

I want The Showband of the South to just continue being freaking marvelous and kicking ***. But they will do that anyways. I honestly don't care what they do, I enjoy it no matter what. They can do no wrong by me.

I hope and assume they will be able to march in and out of the North endzone in the future, right? I loved watching them march in and then out, especially out. The game was not over till they came out with Horns up and shouting "Beat the hell out of ___________ ".

This has nothing to do with halftime, but as a former LHB member, why do they play "The Eyes" at funeral speed? It really bugs me that they play to soooooooo slowly.

I voted for the classic rock.

Please DO NOT do the Mario/Tetris show. We did that in 2004. I was in it. No need to do it again. If ya'll are running out of ideas so fast that ya'll are repeating shows from 4 years ago, then I am really scared.

Texas Jack,

That was in 2004, but your point is taken. That was all part of the Super Hero/Video Game Show. After halftime, that crowd was jacked up. It was allsome.

Here is the video:

I wish that the folks who devise the shows would look back into the archives from the late 60s, the 70s and the early 80s and see what kind of shows the LHB did back then.

The emulate them. The shows designed by James Hejl and Tom Rhodes were exactly what the LHB should be doing now.

Hell, just do the same shows that Hejl and Rhodes wrote. I'm sure the diagrams and musical selections are somewhere in the band hall.

Roma hit it right on the sweet spot.....all this Gershwin/Andrew Lloyd Weber/Tommy Tune stuff, marching bakwards, with dancing flag people (what was up with the purple flags for the KSU game?) needs to go.

They've narrowed down to a few shows (I dont know which ones since I'm not on the committee) and the poll is now closed. Thanks for the input!

Let's attempt to play music that sounds like it was made for a marching band to play; this ethereal crap that doesn't even seem to have a tempo sucks, as do random curvey lines all over the field that don't signify anything at all.

Roma, Statalyzer...you guys are nailing it right on the head. I have complained about HS and college half-times for years. You have thousands of fired up, rowdy fans and you play Somewhere Over The Rainbow???? and then twist and turn in different directions so that all you hear is the occasional trumpet.

I'll give aggy one thing, they play loud up-tempo marches and that's how it oughtta be. I could listen to Wabash Cannonball and March Grandioso at every halftime!

As far as traditional shows LHB does, I'm guessing everyone is talking about wall-to-wall. The crowd hates script texas. (Those are the only two traditionals besides pregame.) This discussion kinda came up last year after aggy played here. Some people liked the old school stuff but felt it got boring after awhile. It was like a 70/30 mix in favor for what the band does now. I'm just trying to get a feel for what people mean. Do some just want us to march a block up and down playing marches?

Hopefully one of the ones that they narrowed it down to is the show based on Texas music. There's some real potential there.

I also agree that the amoeba sets are kind of bland because you don't really know what you're looking at.

It would also be nice if the band played Draped up Dripped Out, June 27th, etc. in the stands like they did at the K-State game last year and of course the MNC. They have good brass lines. Of course if the band actually played those songs more often, the alumni on the west side would probably have a wtf moment. Keep all the traditionals, but replace songs like Rawhide and Respect.

I would prefer the band stand in place and hum marches than play the curvy modernistic crappy halftime music that everyone else plays. If the band could be in the stands and watch people's reactions to the different shows, maybe they would understand the replies on this thread.

It is unbelievable the amount of conversation and phone calls that start up when the first song is announced. I can guarantee that the traditional shows prevent a lot of this because the crowd is more involved with the marches...clapping, foot-tapping, singing, etc.

Well this past year we had Aerosmith and some Mo-Town music (Earth Wind and Fire, Jackon 5, etc). Last year the first game had Chicago and Kansas. So I fail to see your point or I'm just misunderstanding you I guess.

Saturday morning and video game shows are more novelty shows than anything and they have their place maybe once a season with a heavy home schedule. Movie themes seem to go over well ala James Bond. I think it's due time for a good Indiana Jones show though.

I agree on the rap songs in the stands. I think a few would be a good mix in every once in a while. I also agree to get rid of Respect and if the Lord is generous do away with William Tell. Chamillionaire is a Texas fan right? His background music is pretty good.

As one of LHB's biggest fans I'd much prefer to see Shotgun Texas to Script Texas. I wish LHB would be more inventive in their shows. I'll never forget the halftime show at the Orange Bowl game against Bama where the band did a window revealing every game's score of the season- all rolling across the field. They even had the halftime score of that game.

I did enjoy the band plalying the old Victory March last year. It was good to hear it again.

Now if you could please talk Texas Cheer into figuring out something the enlivens the crowd after a touchdown. The insipid TEXAS spellout, which no one spells out, needs to be replaced with something that the entire stadium participates in. I hate copying anything from another school, but the cheer that Iowa does after a TD using their flags was really good and all of their fans got involved.
