Wade

wade is not at all overrated. unless your name is lebron, dwight, or, in these playoffs, dirk, you aren't better than dwyane wade (surely you're not still clinging to kobe being better than him NB?). in 2006 it wasn't just the finals, it was the conference finals that he was also unbelievable. in 2008-2009, the guy averaged 30/7.5/5 and threw in 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks for good measure. one of only 16 seasons with a PER over 30 in nba history. last year in the playoffs he went for 33/7/6 on 56% shooting against the boston defense. this year he was 3rd in PER and was the 3rd best player after lebron and dwight in the regular season. and now, after a really bad chicago series he's been the best player on the heat for the first 3 games of the finals.

the only knock on him pretty much ever has been his health, but a healthy dwyane wade has been better than kobe since those 2006 finals and isn't one bit overrated and is as big a game changer as anyone in the league. to think otherwise seems like we're watching different players.

Wade is having a good series, but he has done nothing to change my opinion of him. I think we have a disconnect here in the point that is trying to be made. Wade is top notch. No doubt about it. A definite HOF, no doubt. But would I choose him to start a team around? No way. He relies too much on the refs to bail him out of certain scenarios and the refs often oblige him. Granted, I have not seen as many instances of this in this series as there were in the last, but he has had his fair share of calls go his way. I think the refs are starting to catch on a bit to his antics and not bailing him out when he creates the contact after the fact or fakes the contact (even though they missed a couple of those last game).

As a Mavs fan, I can say that this series is being called a little more evenly. Nothing will ever compare to the Phantom Fouls from 2006. When Wade had the ball in 2006, it was only a question of whether he was going to get the bucket and the foul, or just the foul (despite there being very little or, in some instances, no contact).

Right now Wade is the best player in the series. He won't win MVP if the Heat don't win even even he has a triple double in one of the next few games while Dirk continues to underwhelm slightly (granted he had a valid excuse this game), but he has played better than LBJ or Dirk through 4 games at least.

Big fan of Wade's game, but if his whining to the officials doesn't stop, I'm gonna start losing a lot of respect for him. It's one thing to exaggerate contact to get a call, but its entirely different when you start jumping up and down in front of the officials crying for a call after every play like a 10 year old.

Maybe its always been there and I haven't paid enough attention, but I don't remember him being such a ***** before.

You really think Dirk has underwhelmed? He hasn't played as good as Wade, but I don't see 2 guys guarding Wade either. I see one 38 year old most of the time.

Wade has been the most impressive player, but Dirks having as good a series under the circumstances. It's not the points, but when he's getting them. 4th quarter once again he goes double digits when he knows he's going to get doubled. He gets almost every friggin point down the stretch when it's money time for the Mavs. It's 2-2 and both these guys are flat out carrying their teams. Finals MVP will go to the winner as it should. Put Dirk and Wade on the same team and this series is over already. Bron is a fraud at least in this series. No more comparisons for him. He's not in the conversation.

Wade gets a few phantom calls using court awareness so extreme he takes into account what the ref can see. But I think Mark Cuban's bitching about officiating, backed up with some pretty serious documentation, has done some good. I remember back in the day when Karl Malone could stop just short of WWF moves when defending Dirk and come away with zero fouls at the end of the game. Meanwhile, Dirk defending Malone would get foul calls for comparatively minor contact. Once the criminal ref was outed and prosecuted I think it changed officiating and the "star" system in making calls has been toned down a lot. I think it's clear that NBA refs don't want to decide games and I think officiating is a lot better for the Mavs in 2011 than it was in 2006 and way better than it was when Dirk was in his first and second year.
Cuban has quit bitching and the Mavs don't let the refs get in their head. By the end of the game it pretty much evens out.

Bron has been really good in the playoffs; he has largely disappeared in the Finals. Not up until last night. Wade, on the other hand, has been freaking ridiculous.

Dirk's hitting any open shot he gets. He's just not getting easy shots this series like the OKC series. He's getting doubled from all over the court. Outside of game 4 where he was playing sick (not sure how he does that), I think Carlisle would say Dirk has played every bit as good this series.

Miami's D is so much better then what he faced in the other series, and the support has not shot well enough to take pressure off of Dirk. Sitll it's 2-2 and the only reason it's 2-2 is Dirk. I guess what I am saying is the circumstances are different and you have to factor that in. He can play better, but not by a lot. This isn't Nick Collision guarding him 1 on 1. Heat tried that with Bosh and we won't see that again. Dirk made some impossible shots to win game 2 (remember the one from the baseline), and carried the Mavs down the stretch in game 4 with the flue. I'm sure he's tell you he could play better because he missed the shot in game 3. But I don't think he's playing worse this series, but that the Heat are one hell of a defensive team and they are going to get steals and make life hard for him. Terry and JJ have to step up and then you'll see Dirk get some better looks.

For any of you folks telling us Mavs fans to get over the 2006 screw job I only have this youtube to link

Situation:
Game 6 Heat are up 1 point. Have the ball with 30 seconds left.

Dwayne Wade drives the ball, throws a forearm in Dirks chest......and Dirk gets called for the foul.

This puts the Heat up three with 26 seconds left....and they would hold on to win by 3 and win it all.

D-Whistle is untouchable in 2006
