I get that. however where does the law allow for 'proper authority figures' to include your boss at work?

and, the "better safe than sorry" remark really isn't a legal principle, so what do the medical privacy laws say on this?

Maybe when NFL players sign their contract, they give up doctor-patient confidentiality. We get detailed reports on Fantasy Football sites of player injuries, but you don’t get that at all for college players. With the amount of money these guys are paid, I guess it is in the entire organization’s best interest to know full detail of player mental and physical health.

There are four situations when a therapist MUST break confidentiality.
1. The patient is a threat to others.
2. The patient is involved in an illegal act.
3.The patient is being abused.

It seems like all these "well-meaning" professionals in the Titan's organization couldn't do a better job making a difficult situation even worse.

This might shed some light on this issue. I myself have had battles with clinical depression and have seen a therapist. In the first session, you sign a release that includes a confidentiality agreement on the part of your therapist. The exceptions are if you are an endagerment to self or others and if by a court order. If they feel that your are indeed a danger to self, they will refer you to inpatient care and for more severe cases notify the authorities. With Vince being a public figure and since police reports are public domain, it was going to unfortunately leak out.

BTW, as a man I had a hard time disclosing my condition, but once I did, I have a whole army behind me to contain it. I hope if someone out there is in the pit that VY, myself, or other men have gone through, I hope this will give you courage to face it head on and seek help.
