How long does Pittman have to be on tbe bench with 3 fouls?
There are 10 min to go in the game and he has sat on the bench with 3 fouls for all but 20 seconds of the 2nd half.
I cannot begin to describe how frustrating this game is with all this talent on this team. I am not going to cry the sky is falling or anything, but this is just simply frustrating to watch. Why do they have practice? What were they doing pre-season? Why is there no offense whatsoever? Pitt seems to have a pretty good game plan. Why does Barnes not have one together?
Will all the subing we do keep our offense from ever getting into any kind of a rhythm? I love our depth but we can't get anything going consistently on offense. Then when we start getting frustrated on offense it seems like we start getting lazy on defense.
Poor Texas offense along with a defense that seems to give up more easy buckets than it gets. Bad officiating... fouls that didn't happen being called while hard fouls (both ways) being let go. Typical Texas BBall game.
Well, this is preseason, does it really matter kind of basketball, so maybe Barnes was trying to find something in the other guys. Also, maybe Pittman still isn't ready for back to back 20+ minute games. While we can marvel at the physical difference in him from three years ago, the fouls could be in part due to him being a little tired.
The fouls (for the most part) have been very ticky-tack. Maybe Barnes just assumes that the refs are going to call them close and that is why he is keeping Dex on the bench (that 4th foul on Dex was VERY weak). However, when your team is trying to find an offensive identity and Dex is the only guy that gives that to you, sometimes you have to take a chance. Guys look clueless out there at times on offense.
Balbay is a fantastic defender. He did not get to show it much last year for one reason or another. He and Bradley are an unbelievable defensive 1-2 punch.
All right, let's not grouse too much about the refs after a 16 point win. They did get the intentional foul right.
On the one hand, a 16 point win over a competitive Big East team 24 hours after playing a not so competitive Big Televen team. A 16 point win when arguably the most important player spends 25 minutes on the bench. A 16 point win when the team shoots under 60% from the line.
You can't feel too bad about that.
You can't feel TOO good, but I'm not going to feel bad about this game. So I won't get to the other hand.
Edit: Huh. Pittman really stay on the floor for 22 minutes?
Can't believe how deep we are. On like 95% of Division 1 teams, Jordan Hamilton would be a prized recruit and would start from Day 1. On this team? He's coming off the bench for 5-10 minutes to give us some scoring punch. Just sickening.
I hear ya bierce. Definitely good to keep things in perspective. When it is all said and done though, I think Iowa and Pitt will be at the bottom (or near bottom) of their respective divisions.
I learned last year not to get too worked up early in the year. I just want to see the offense get better. Have a plan. Implement the plan. Just the basics.
The sky is the limit for this team, but it really going to take some coaching. Barnes needs to have his best coaching year ever to get this team where it should be.
I think Pitt will be decent. I said competitive, meaning that they will be in games, not that they will contend for conference title.
I don't see Iowa in Pitt's class.
Edit: I see Pitt finishing ahead of at least 6 Big East teams (Depaul, USF, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall, and Providence come to mind, and there are a couple of others they could overtake).
