Vince Young's Number to be Retired

I may be alone here in my thoughts but interested to see what others think:

Durant was awesome. I don't doubt that. And he did a lot for this University in the year he was here. But should we really retire the jersey of someone who played ONE year here? Seems somewhat wrong to me.

""As our staff, working with the T-Association, considered the individuals who should be eligible, our first criteria was that a player should have earned recognition as a National Player of the Year in his sport. "
Although now that I read that I guess it makes sense.

WTF, they're retiring #60? That makes no sense at all. How many people have worn it since him? Not to mention that he doesn't even want it retired.

And Bryant in baseball?

This is an outrage!!!! No number at the University of Texas should be retired!!! Honored and put in the rafters or on a wall, yes, never retired!!!!!

What about all the others who have worn number 10 or 60?

This is putting the player above the team above what the University of Texas stands for........

Utter outrage, bull...!!

I think Vince was the greatest player in the history of college football.

If you arent going to retire that one, dont retire any of em.

Vince was the best ever. No brag, just fact.
Easy to prove by highlights, statistics, team accomplishments, or any other way. Plus, he did everything in a way that built up our program, not just building up himself. He absolutely deserves this honor.

To each his own. I like to see former players honored and shown the respect they earned. But I see retiring a number as cutting a little bit of history off the team each time it is done.

Seeing the number of a former great out on the field reminds me of them and the days that they played so hard.

My name is Pentaconta, and I approve of this action.

I think at the very least, it is wholly appropriate that #10 be retired, considering the outright travesty of the 2005 Heisman Trophy outcome. It would be a fitting tribute to unique contributions Vince made during that special season. It is highly unlikely that Texas would have won the NC without him.

I am iffy about #60, though Nobis was definitely one of the Longhorn greats. I can understand wanting to retire that number, although I also like the whole idea of earning the right to wear it. I think it is a cool tradition.

Disclaimer - I don't know how the women's bball team works, in terms of retiring numbers.

That said - there are more than a few female athletes who need their number retired. Cat. Clarissa Davis. Kelli Kehune (sp? did she win POY?) just to name a few, and I don't even really watch women's sports.
