Video Shows Bruised and Battered Zimmerman

The Miami Herald reports that the Sanford Police Department, at the conclusion of its Trayvon Martin investigation, recommended that the prosecutor file charges against the shooter George Zimmerman. Angela Corey, the special prosecutor now assigned to the case, confirmed the report:

“As far as the process I can tell you that the police went to the state attorney with a capias request, meaning: ‘We’re through with our investigation and here it is for you.’ The state attorney impaneled a grand jury, but before anything else could be done, the governor stepped in and asked us to pick it up in mid-stream.”

A capias is a request for charges to be filed.

State Attorney Norman R. Wolfinger, who was initially assigned the Trayvon Martin case, failed to act on the recommendation for charges against Zimmerman.

This new information directly contradicts the public statements that Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee (who has now “temporarily” stepped down) made on March 12, the day he turned the case over to the state attorney. He claimed that, at the time, there was not enough evidence to charge Zimmerman with a crime and arrest him:

Police Chief Bill Lee said there was not enough evidence to arrest George Zimmerman, who followed Martin in his SUV and ended up confronting the teen before shots were fired.

“In this case Mr. Zimmerman has made the statement of self-defense,” Lee said. “Until we can establish probable cause to dispute that, we don’t have the grounds to arrest him.”

These statements now do not appear to reflect the actual views of the Sanford Police, as communicated to the prosecutor. It only adds to the serious questions about the conduct of Lee and other members of the Sanford police in this case. While Lee was in charge of the Sanford Police, they did not test Zimmerman for drugs or alcohol, “corrected” a key witness, and amended the police report to bolster Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense.

Satch,

Personally, I'd look into the Daddy as a former judge angle. Where was his dad a judge? Was he a criminal court judge? Was he a judge in the same area where the shooting took place? If he was judge in the same area as the DA (who called off the charges), that says a lot. George would be getting a pass even if Trayvon was white.

I'm not weighing in on guilt, no guilt, justified, not justified, but the video clearly shows one officer checking out the back of GZ's head. Why...?

I don't think this video tells us anything about what happen.

It shows that he was taken to the police station to have his testimony recorded that night. Early assumptions, were that he was not.

I am sure they will compare his first statements with this testimony and I am sure,if he hasn't they will bring him in again, and probably again. He will be questioned at least 3-4 times by the police if not 8-10 times.

They are looking for inconsistencies in his stories with the withnesses, with the 911 tapes, with the area of the scene etc.

I think they have a firm grip on the situation and it will be handled in a professional manner, unlike the way the media has acted in this tragedy.

The only things that I have heard from the leaked Police Reports and the the leaked witness testimony was that he was punched in the nose and it was broken, he had grass stains on the back of his shirt and his head was slammed into the concrete and there was a laceration.

Slammed is relative, if he needed stitches, the Paramedic would have told him and he would have gone to the hospital. He as given a choice at the scene and he chose not too. I am sure the paramedic stopped the bleeding if there was any and cleansed the wound. The nose, who knows, if it was broken or not, there was a bloody nose when the police arrived.

Trying to make something one way or another out this video and picture is ludicris(sp).

There will be better evidence of his state than this video, which does not really support a contention that he was beaten in a manner that threatened his life. Maybe he has cotton packed in his nose, but I don't see evidence of a broken nose. He just doesn't seem like he was recently being attacked in a murderous way.

The only thing that really matters is did he sustain a broken nose (i.e., was he struck in the nose hard and knocked to the ground). His father seems to suggest he was hit in the face multiple time. A broken nose would be a miss after multiple strikes and time to swell.

Buck??
You said it did not look like zimmerman's nose was broken.
Who said it WAS nroken. all I hve read is that Zimmerman said Travlon punched him in the nose and in the police report, from the scene the police said Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose and the back of the head.

I have not read anywhere that zimmerman said his nose was broken.
in which cse that might be why it didn't look broken in the vid.

According to ABC there is a 13 y o who told police he saw Martin on top of Zimmerman with Z moaning and crying for help, which if true seems to cooborate what Zimmerman has said all along.

I think all this shows we should just wait until all the facts are reviewed and known. Jumping to conclusions on either side doesn't help and on the martin side the ju,ping to wrong conclusions has caused even damage, to stores and to innocent people's lives

Last time I looked , ABC still has the picture of a 12 year old Trayvon and 21 year old Zimmerman. At least CNN has current photos of the two. Why does ABC continue to be dishonest on the photos. They don't have to use the picture of Trayvon with his gangsta gold teeth and Tats, but at least a current photo. And after looking at current pictures of Zimmerman and the video of him at the police station, how in the world did ABC make his head so huge in picture of when he was 21???

Ruh-rohhhh

Since ABC is showing the same video but enhancing it, would you consider this a credible source? So are you now going to admit that he apparently DID have injuries? Or do you think ABC doctored the video to gin up the controversy more?

ProdigalHorn,

I saw that and had to laugh when you have Satch showing ABC poorly visual video as proof to Zimmerman not having any marks. He used ABC as a source as proof. Then that same source ABC enhanced it and it shows proof that he got his head bashed on the cement. Satch once again sticks his foot in his mouth. What's entertaining is how he will try to spin it somehow that it proves nothing even though it was his original source.

He was that little kid that had chocolate all over his mouth but lied he was the one that ate the chocolate.

Zimmerman should trademark the slogan "See the gash, don't be rash". He could have it printed on hoodies and sell them on the internets.

I35/Prod, Satchel doesn't need any spin. You two just don't get it.

The shooter is white. That's the story, period. He is obviously guilty and deserves the harshest penalty since this was not only murder but a hate crime.

Some of you guys can be so dense. Forget nugatory details like forensic evidence. The man is white and needs to pay.

Zimmerman Never used a racial slur

Advanced technology may prove Zimmerman's infamous racial slur as nothing more than the word "Cold."

transcript
TUCHMAN: You can stop. Now, it does sound less like that racial slur last time. I acknowledge the possibility it could have been that slur. From listening in this room, and this is state-of-the-art room, it doesn’t sound like that slur anymore.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Right.

TUCHMAN: It sounds like — and we wanted to leave it up to the viewer — but it sounds like we’re hearing the swear word at first and then the word cold.

And the reason some say that would be relevant is because it was unseasonably cold in Florida that night and raining.

Zimmerman is right though. I was a punker in High School and yes, I always got away. Skated quickly and nimbly around urban obstacles even outrunning Johnny Law's radios!
