I'm really pleased and impressed with the public schools in the Lewisville ISD, especially in the better neighborhoods. Of course Rick Perry and the Leg are making things a lot harder for them. The teaching for the test stuff wastes time, but it doesn't hurt too much here, I don't think. I love the idea of taking kids to historical sites and visiting the capitol. Of course, with kids in public schools that has to be arranged other than on a school day. As you continue teaching, i'd suggest you also consider visits to the Museum of the Pacific War in Frericksburg and The Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth. The latter would only take 2-3 hours, but it's pretty informative and inspirational. I've also heard "Frontier Texas" Museum in Abiline is very good, though I haven't visited personally.
