UTEP Game

Is the Camino Real really run down? I stayed there about 6 or 7 years ago and it was fine. It was a Hilton at the time. I already booked my trip; do I need to cancel? A friend of mine recomended a new hotel built on campus. What would you say the nicest hotel in El Paso is; price doesn't matter?

The hotel on campus is full... been there done that. I dont know if the team is staying there or not. I also dont know what the next best option is or where everyone is staying.

I'm not saying the Camino is a Motel 6, just don't expect it to be the EP version of the Stephen F. Austin or Driscoll. My wife stayed there 2 years ago and was really surprised at the condition of the room. But then again, if you're not going to be in the room much, what does it matter.

The advantage of the Camino is that it does have a great bar, is across the street from the best restaurant in town, and is close to UTEP and that bar scene - but not walking distance.

The UTEP fight song used to be "Miners Fight". It was sung to the same tune as "Texas Fight". Their colors also used to be orange and white.

I'm not sure when the transition came about, but they changed their school colors to include blue with the orange and white as well as changed the fight song. The linked Youtube video above is the current UTEP fight song and for those who have heard Marty Robbins, they'll recognize it instantly. The new fight song is essentially Marty Robbin's song "Out In The West Texas Town of El Paso" at a higher tempo and re-arranged a little.

Pretty cool fight song.

I'll always be a Longhorn, but the Miner's hold a special place in my heart as well and will always pull for them against any team but UT Austin.

Hook 'em

Being a UTEP grad but longer time Horn fan I will be there in UT shirt
with Miner cap. Pulling for UT victory but good plays from both.

Got flight arrangements and hotel all set, gonna be a great time. Going early to return to Ruidoso where wife and I were wed 37 yrs ago!

Hookem, but play well Miners.

My mom was a cheerleader for Texas Western/UTEP in the mid-60s and she confirms that yes, the "Texas Fight" melody was played, but they sang "Miners Fight."

My dad's letter jacket was also burnt orange with a white "T" that had "El Paso" on it.
