UTEP Game

Has anyone seen a confirmed kickoff time for the UTEP game?
The UTEP football schedule shows a 9:15 MDT start on ESPN2.

The Longhorn football site doesn't have a time.

The ESPN site has it listed as "ESPN or ESPN2" with no time listed.

(There is a 7pm EDT game on ESPN2, therefore, an 10:15EDT or 11:15EDT start is not out of the question.)

anyone nervous about this game? it's like the UCF game--I look at it and think "why the hell are we going there?" I know they look pretty bad on paper, but it's early in the season and games aren't played on paper...

I would imagine there aren't really any game times that are set in stone this far out. It's usually a decision made by the Universities and whatever TV entity happens to pick up the game (a complicated arrangement in and of itself).

Given Mack's well publicised reluctance to play early season games in the extreme heat of the afternoon, I'd bet it's going to be very early or the late time slot, depending upon what's available TV wise.

El Paso in September before 9pm....get a rope. This thing better be well after the sun goes down.
We'll win by 40, Colt goes for 325.

Great sig WorsterMan.

I remember that game very well.
And those old unis are the best.
I wish we would go back to those permanately.
No Texas on the front and the number above the Horns.

UTEP does not play the Eyes of Texas. They do have the same fight song as UT so it will be odd during the game.

UTEP has a decent following when it comes to sports- including season ticket holders. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 60/40 Horns fans. I think there will be some Miners fans selling tickets. Of course I'll be up in the new fancy area for big donors thanks to my wife's 'pappa'

That city will be rockin' that weekend and it will be a great time. El Paso is a spirited city and they support both UTEP and UT so it'll be a great time.

Also, I wonder how many UTEP fans root for the Horns in general? I would assume a high number of them. Not just being part of the UT system but having a team to root for in bowl games, BCS games, etc... Many people growing up take a side, Texas or aggy. Then the smaller schools come into play when they or a family member go there. But there is often the allegiance developed as a kid to one of the two biggest schools.

I think even many Tech fans root for the Horns when not playing the Red Raider Pirates. There seems to be a sort of allegiance between us and TT. Maybe because aggy is so danged goofy and cult'ish.

There will be Horn fans loud and proud at the game but do NOT underestimate the Miner's fans...The Sun Bowl can get plenty loud and it will when the "flagship" school comes to town. UT should win with ease but make no mistake about it, you will be greatly outnumbered. If the Longhorns just "show up" it could get interesting.

The UTEP fight song is not the same as the Texas fight song. It's similiar, but not the same. The link (Sorry, this is the best I could find).

The Miners DO play Texas Fight once during the football game (usually around the end of the 3rd quarter), but they do not play the Eyes of Texas. Not sure if they'll do this for the Texas game.

I recommend the Raddison by the airport. I think it is reasonable. It is a little drive to the stadium but not too bad. We stay there when we got to El Paso every year.

My father & mother-in-law both graduated UTEP (Texas Western) and they are big Longhorn fans too. I am pumped about the game because El Paso is such a unique place & odds are the weather will be perfect.

The coolest place to stay is the Camino Real. It's old and historical. The rooms are big, but you can tell it used to be a lot nicer. It's still very adequate and the bar with the tiffany domed glass ceiling is very cool. It's also within walking distance of the border and the Kentucky Club.

I doubt UT fans will out number Miner fans, but there will be plenty of UT support. This is definitely a UT town. I'll be interested to see the reaction of people who have never seen a game at the Sun Bowl. I'm guessing more than a few will think they're at a soccer game. A good number of fans out here are not the most ... knowledgable about football. I'll never forget the UTEP-Texas Tech game here two years ago. The Miners were flagged for delay of game early in the game and half the crowd booed the official (as if the play clock running out was somehow a judgment call on the ref's part).

The Radisson at the airport is nice. The Camino's bar is great, but the hotel and rooms are pretty run down. For the love of god, please don't go over to Juarez when you come out here. It's just not worth it.

PM me if you have any questions about EP or what to do. Should be a fun weekend.

My nephew plays for UTEP, but he's on my wife's side of the family so I can pull for Texas.

Still, I hope the kid has a good day. He's a real asss kicker.
