UT vs Baylor

Ridley will be playing limited minutes when he comes back. He will require some time to get back up to full speed.

He will I think definitely come off the bench, because of this. Those are big minutes though and five extra fouls for a big man.

I think the loss in Lubbock goes a long way to taking the "trap" out of the game, just like the TCU home game was.

Did anyone notice that on TWO POSSESSIONS in a ROW by Baylor when there was less than 48 seconds remaining in the game, they dribbled the ball at least 6 feet BEYOND half-court BEFORE the clock started? NEITHER TIME did the officials catch the clock errors. Fully 4-7 seconds should have been deducted from the clock, overall, from those 2 possessions. Good'ol hometown people running the clock, I suppose. That could have been crucial, but I'm glad it didn't change the outcome of the game. But it's disturbing that the officials didn't catch the clock error either time.

Just looked it up on the Big XII website...the horns are first in turnover margin and assist to turnover margin..even though they are near the bottom in assists. And they are near the bottom in almost every other category in the big XII. With that said, keep taking care of that basketball boys!

It is my understanding that both the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kentucky Wildcats will be flying into Austin tomorrow morning to take free throw shooting lessons from "The Prince."

This team has found a way to steal two road wins and now needs to find 4 more wins to guarantee a tourny berth. Tech at home is a must but the path to four is looking a little more feasible, win 3 of 5 at home and win one more game on road somewhere. That gets Horns to 19 wins which with their schedule should mean a 7 or 8 seed.

Just huge - great effort and even better tenacity. It's been a while since I've seen a Texas team play with that kind of poise. Always an answer, always a key play. There was definitely nothing easy about any part of this game. At some point, it stops being a "statement" and starts being "this is who this team is now."

I know this may sound premature, but the way this team is playing Shaka's systems on Offense and Defense, and the impressive way they have played against top 25 teams, shouldn't they be inching into the top 25 rankings if they win their next game?
The early losses are behind them, I mean way behind them. They are a different team now.

I have never seen a better job of coaching than what Shaka has done 1) bringing the freshmen along to peak in February ready for March, (I think we can safely say that Roach has elevated his game the last two weeks--and it will only get better) and 2) coaching Ibeh up to such a high level of play so quickly to offset the loss of Ridley.

Ibeh is a different player now than he was one month ago.

At one point in the game, I believe it was Taylor at the line, one of the announcers mentioned Taylor was the leading FT shooter on the Team. They had previously mentioned Ibeh was 12 of 14 after being 2 - 20 since Kansas and I thought the partner was going to say "2nd to Ibeh, of course". What a year he's having and it will be nice to have 6th Man Ridley comin' in off the bench right about Dance time. ; )

Texas may very well crack the top 25, with a win over Tech.

That #1 strength of schedule rating starts to really shine, as the wins against ranked teams keeps adding up. Two of those being road wins makes it even more impressive.

Road wins are so important in seedings for the tourney, too. Fantastic win tonight in "The Bermuda Triangle."

If it ain't the 7, please not 8 or 9. Rather fall to 10, since 10 plays 7, winner of that plays winner of 2 v 15. If you're 7 playing 10 or 10 playing 7, no biggee.

On the other hand, 8 plays 9, winner plays winner of 1 v 16. A
16 has never beaten a 1. Never.

Theoretically, the four No. 1 seeds are the 4 best teams in the country. They are tough outs.

So, win the 8 v 9, congratulations, you get to play a top-4 team next. Get the bar-b-que pit ready. 2 and que.

The four No. 2 seeds are the 5th - 8th ranked teams, approximately. Match up well, be healthy, and maybe they have an injury or two and you've got a chance.

And really, are the 7, 8, 9, 10 seeded teams much different from each other? By ranking, they should represent the 25th-40th ranked teams, approximately. Flip a coin.

This team, other than it's style of play, reminds me of Pender's first couple of teams. Fun to watch, getting better every game and starting to put fans in the seats. Of course if Shaka had BMW, I dare say his style of play would look a lot like Tom's! The Erwin Center was rocking in the day. Now with the men's and women's programs on the rise, images of Abe, Jody and Penders may start flashing before out eyes. With the lack of turn overs, during a typical mugging by the Waco thugs, this may be looked back on as a signature win. This was huge. A home game with the Rock Chalks, and a double header with the #1 team in the land......who knows. Great win Shaka. Maybe Patterson did one thing right.

I dare say it wouldn't look like Tom's. Shaka places an emphasis on defense to go along with a more freewheeling offense, something Penders never did.

Agreed - I think a lot of people have a romanticized memory of the Penders years. They remember the shocking first-year upset of Georgia Tech and the electric run that got us four points from a Final Four bid.

But they forget the lack of offensive structure, the inability to be consistently good against half-court teams, the lack of fundamental defense, a press that started to become less and less effective as time went on and people figured it out, and frankly recruiting that was pretty ordinary for the most part.

This team plays smarter, works harder and has a higher ceiling than any team Penders had with the exception of the BMW team. Smart blows Penders out of the water.

This is the way the football team should have come along. Get better every game...injuries be damned....Get better every game....
Why were we in WHITE on the road ???

We wore white on the road because Baylor was having a "Black Out" game. The home team has the choice of the color of uniforms, so we wore the white, for contrast.

This is akin to what other schools do, white out at Penn. St., maroon out at aggy, and a black out at Okie St.

Their team usually wears this color uniform and the fans wear that color too. Texas has never done this and I hope we never do.

Texas doesn't need gimmicks to entice fans,(can you say jet pack man) just keep the product on the field or court good and fans will turn out and wear the school colors.

Note to Baylor, they didn't come close to selling out and there was a very noticable "Texas Fight" chant in the second half.

Yes, jersey color is opposite of football.

Remember, we've already beaten the presently #1/#2 ranked team (depending on which poll) so I wouldn't bet on the 2nQ :)

Let's also admit Barnes also set a slightly (sarcasm) higher bar than Weltlich did

Team rankings, LLC latest computer generated bracketology odds have Texas projected as a 7 seed, with a 19-12 record. The next highest seed with 19 losses is an 11 seed. USA today has us projected as a 5 seed. Id rather be an 11-12 than a 7-10. 5 or 6 would be money. I think we'll be a lock for a 5-6 if we can go .500 vs. ranked opponents and win 20 games total.

I had a high school coach (won 3 big school titles in Oklahoma), that firmly believed that wins in Waco are borne of games like the Fort Worth collapse. He wouldn't lead us directly off the court after meltdowns like we had at TCU. He wanted us to see the fans of a vastly inferior team celebrating a victory over us. He was sort of an eccentric guy, but he wanted us to remember what it felt like and that there was only one way not to feel that way again. And that was to win. Of course he also thought Barry Goldwater was a Jew. And said that great talent can usually overcome crappy coaching, but great coaching can almost never overcome crappy talent.

RIP D.V.P.
