You may have heard recently on KVUE or other newscasts about a UT student that died after boxing in the Sigma Chi fundraiser earlier this month. His name was Nandi Cavallaro, and he was my friend.
I went to Bowie High School here in Austin with him. We then both attended the UT Business School. I got to know him a lot more the last few years at college. Spent a lot of time with him at his apartment, around town, at parties, and just hanging out talking about sports.
He was a really good guy. He was a good friend and would always have your back if anything happened. He had some faults, like we all do, but all in all was a good person.
He always told me how close he was to being on the UT Powerlifting team his freshman year, but had a hernia a day or two before tryouts. Who knows what could have been?
He was so excited about getting into boxing again. He talked about it every time we saw each other lately...which wasn't much since he wasn't at UT anymore. He wanted everyone he knew to come watch. He was going to pitch in with me to buy a weight set so we could workout together.
This is a shock. I just found out tonight as I walked in the door. I really can't believe it happened, and now I have to get ready to go to the services tomorrow afternoon.
If you would, just pray for everyone involved. Family, friends, and anyone lucky enough to know Nandi. Thanks.
