UT football roster for Palm PDAs

I’m not sure if anyone else is interested in this, but I’ve taken the current team roster and put it into a database form readable on PalmOS-based PDAs. I know I’m a complete geek, but I figured since I went to trouble of doing this, I might as well make it available to everyone.

The current version of the roster is based on the spring roster, and includes both scholarship and non-schol players. The fields for each are last name, first name, number, position, height, weight, class, experience, hometown, high school, and whether or not the player is on scholarship, everything that is on the roster pdf. I plan to update this with the fall roster as soon as it’s available in the media guide or website. Perhaps I could add some additional info, like “favorites” or career stats or something at that point.

The file itself is a .pdb file (here it is) The only database program I’ve tested it on is MobileDBLite, available here, but it may work with others. This is a freeware version of MobileDB, and I’ve found it to be very useful. You can resize the column widths, sort on up to three columns, and tap any players name to see all of their parameters on one page. You can scroll through the roster as a list (one player per line), or by player (one player’s info per page). It also allows the entries to be included in global Palm searches, so you can just hit your main search button, spell out Trissel, and it should bring him up (along with any other Trissels you may know from your address book).

I’ve found the sorting to be useful depending on what I’m thinking about at the time. I usually have it sorted by scholarship, the position, then class, but it would be nice to have it done by number or hometown depending on what you want to look at. I’m also considering building a smaller one for the coaching staff, since I get their backgrounds confused so much. Anyway, I hope some of you find this useful, and let me know if you have any advice or constructive criticism.

Please continue you geekness it is appreciated.

Now the rest of the season's task will be making available for download, all player stats games stats, play by play and a comparison to relevant other top 25 players and teams.

Thanks

greenehorn, thanks for getting me off my tail.

Here's the 2002 Schedule in .dba format, which you can import directly into your palm using Palm Desktop.

I also have the listing of the stations in the Longhorn Sports Network which is a .pdb, for use in MobileDB. You can also find it and lots of others at Memoware. You might want to submit the roster there, gh.

Good idea. I already downloaded the whole Big12 schedule, which I routinely use since I already pretty much have our schedule memorized. Thanks for the comments everyone. Tonight I'll convert the database to jfile format as well, since I'm sure some folks have that.

I'll have to see if there is an easy way to convert a games stats to a format like this. It might be good to have the stats that are on the AD's weekly pdf put on there. We'll see. Any other ideas?

OK it should be available at that site once they review it and whatnot. I'll leave it up at my site for a while though.

FWIW: I use a program called "Documents to go" which allows you to download excel and word files to palm OS machines. Very cool.

First, thank you greenhorn for posting the roster and finally getting me off my *** to use my Handspring the way god surely intended.

Milkman, I cannot access the schedule. I am using MobileDb lite and the file extension is a different one than the roster. What do I need to do to be able to read it on my Handspring?

TK, the schedule is designed to be imported into your calendar rather than MobileDB.

Save the file and use Palm Desktop (or the Handspring equivalent) and run File -> Import on the .dba file. It will add all the games to your desktop calendar and to the handheld after your next sync.
