USC is Soft

Carroll deserves more scrutiny than he gets--USC loses to teams it has no business losing to far too often. Especially given the fact it has by unanimous consensus the best set of recruiting talent in the country. Since he lost his best assistants, that team has not looked well-prepared or focusedness-having or tough.

They're not soft but they play a soft zone d most of the time.

Pete loves the bend but don't break.

I call it bend over and take it up the azz because the opposing offense marches down the field most of the time with the CB's playing 10 yards off the ball.

That wasn't the problem tonight.

No tonight was the usual ****** offense, bad play calling, and nobody has any idea what they're doing out there on offense.

Poor tackling by the defense, poor coaching there, our DL coach is a knucklehead whose career experience is one year as GA at Michigan St and 2 years of DL coach at South Minnesota Tech St, some division 10 school or something. Ken Norton our LB coach is good for yelling really loud and taping his fingers like he's gonna suit up and get in the game. Coaching? Not so much.

Just a poorly coached team.

A real shame cause they're far and away the most talented team in the nation. Not even close. They have so much talent, they don't know what to do with it.

Look at our QB....

Mark Sanchez - #1 QB in the nation 2005

Mustain - #1 QB in the nation 2006

Corp - top 5 QB in the nation in 2007

Those three will be back next year plus...

Barkley - #1 QB in the nation 2009.

Throw in the fact John David Booty was the #1 QB in the nation in 2004 (he graduated early and came in in 2003 but he woulda been #1)

It's like that at every position for SC.

SC seems to suffer from the talent version of "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" phenom. Sometimes you need a few over-achievers in there. SC is BY FAR the most talented team in CFB but that's an awful lot of prima donnas in one locker room. Any thoughts?

OSU whipped them up front all night long (except for most of the 3rd quarter). USC was flat footed and asleep at the wheel expecting to win just by showing up. If they had played the whole game the way they played the 3rd quarter, this would have been a slaughter.

Pete should have tried going no huddle 2 minute drill in the first half to get the O going. OSU was deer in the headlights at the end of the game on USC's last touchdown drive.

Amazing to me that OSU's D-line was pushing USC around all night long. I don't think USC will win out even in the Pac 10.

Watching this game last night was fun as hell. But I was also having some PTSD.

The USC defense was surprised in the first quarter. Then I thought they would settle in, But instead, Rodgers kept gouging out yards.
Then USC finally became angry: "These guys aren't supposed to do this to us.
wtf.gif
They're supposed to suck and we're USC"
But by then Rodgers had already did it again. And again. And settled in to a groove and OSU was believing...
And by the end of the game the USC defense had run the gamut of greif, and finally reached acceptance ... that the margin of talent, no matter what ESPN says, is not that great, you have got to come prepared, and "its not the size of the dog" anyway...

As Hornfans, I think we can all relate. It was fun as hell, none-the-less, because it wasn't us, and b/c it happened to the ESPN anointed greatest army of all time.

Hmmmm, this sounds eerily (I can't spell), familiar.

Reminds me of all the times we had "superior" talent at the OU game. What's funny is, ESPN never cut us any slack during those losses either, but for some reason, it's always not as bad with USC.

Goes to show you though, like during our ugly losing streak, it's not about talent, it's about heart and will, mixed with a little talent.

If, as the poster above indicated, USC has a problem with some of its offensive and defensive coaches, I have to wonder, why? The program should easily be able to attract the very best coaches, just like it attracts the best recruits.

to me usc is kind of like the yankees. sometimes when you have the best players you win it all but you run up against a team where people know their roles and execute then you could get beat if you aren't on your A game.

I just don't understand it. Not one bit. Mark May ASSURED me that this was THE greatest team of all time.

Where are your gods now Mark? Where your gods now?

Just tell a bunch of 18-21 year old kids that they are the greatest team ever. Nobody can touch them. That the other team has no chance.

And, watch what happens.

This reminds me of our losses to K-State the last couple of years. Only this time the media will coddle USC and make every excuse possible for them. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the beds at their hotel in Corvallis were too soft.

Had we been the ones pooping the bed at Oregon State, you would be hearing every criticism in the book hurled at Texas, Mack, Colt, etc. by the media.

Anyway, hooray for Oregon State! Nice win for those guys.
