US Open

Duval has now carded three consecutive birdies to move into a three-way tie atop the leaderboard. Wouldn't that be a story if David won this thing!

And now Glover has birdied 16 while David and Phil both made bogey at 17. Lucas has a two-stroke lead - if he can keep it together for two more holes, he'll win the U.S. Open.

That's what you would call "hanging on by a fingernail" - but he got it done. And I got my wish - an exciting finish, with the outcome still in doubt on the back nine on Sunday (Monday, in this case). And there was an exciting finish without Tiger Woods at the end - shows that the great game is indeed bigger than any one player.

Now on to the important issue of the day - beating the LSU Tigers in Omaha!

Not one for the ages but the story of the week has got to be David Duval. Only Elvis appearing in concert this weekend at cowboys stadium could rival this comeback.

There were many storeis this week. Duval with his comeback. Phil and his struggle. The unknown Barnes with the 3rd round lead. Tiger is always a story.

Tiger was the only player to shoot 3 rounds in the 60's. He played the final 2 rounds at 3 under par and was signficantly better those 2 rounds than the other leaders. Generally this means he wins a tournament. However in this case, perhaps he got a little bit of bad luck with his tee times. He is the only player at the top of the leaderboard that had to play through the toughest of conditions on Thursday and he did not get to go out early on Saturday and chew the course up like Barnes and Glover did. Glover didn't play great but he had that one round that was amazing and that was the difference. He was outplayed the final 2 rounds by Phi, Duval, Fisher, Woods, Hansen, Mahan, Stenson, etc. Same goes for Barnes. Not an exciting tournament to me to see all of the guys on the leaderboard outplay the eventual winner in the final 2 rounds and lose by 2 or more strokes. But in the end that is just the way it worked out. Tiger did cause his own mistakes the final 4 holes of the 1st round though. Can't really blame that on the weather. That was his fault and that cost him. Of course even if he plays those 4 holes at even par he only ties Glover for the lead.
