A few of the players have already teed off early this morning. Leaders are currently at -1 through 8 and 4 respectively. Tiger is at even thru 3.

The course this year is at Bethpage Black. Last time the US Open was played here was in 2002 and Tiger won.

Par is 70 this year and the course is set up to be very difficult. Especially if there is any rain. There are 13 par 4's, 2 par 5's and 3 par 3's.

Par 5's are:
Hole 4.....517 yards
Hole 13...605 yards

Par 4's include:
Hole 5....478 yards
Hole 7....525 yards
Hole 10..508 yards
Hole 12..504 yards
Hole 16..490 yards

Total length of course is 7445 yards!

Only the longest driving players will have a chance to go low this week. Accuracy off the tee is important, but length will be just as key. Many guys are going to have to lay up on those long par 4's. A mistake off the tee and you could easily be looking at bogey.

Tiger parred the par 5 4th just now and did not take advantage. Even for his round so far.

Mickelson tees off at 1236pm today.

Hope we get to Sunday afternoon with a half-dozen guys tied or within one stroke - that would make for an interesting finish. Nothing is more boring than watching someone with a five-stroke lead on the rest of the field. I'm pulling for Lefty this year - but I think he'll have a difficult time pulling it off, since he usually blows up somewhere along the line, and a blowup on Bethpage Black can mean a triple or worse.

Wow. Thought they would get a few more hours in this afternoon once the rain stopped. Guess the rain was just too heavy to run off quickly enough. Can't exactly play with pools of water everywhere.

If the weather cooperates they will have to play 3 rounds Friday and Saturday with one of the rounds probably being split between the days. That is alot of golf on a tough *** course. The most fit players will get the edge this year. Of course they could just string it out and play the final 2 rounds on Monday and Tuesday but I doubt they do that.

Packing more play into two days benefits Tiger in a big way. He qualifies as one of the fit ones.

Yeh he easily qualifies as one of the fit ones. His legs though will still get worn out after these 5 hour plus gueling rounds.

So far Tiger is at 1 over par. He had a double on 5, birdie on 6, bogey on 7 after having to play through the rain on Thursday and come back for a long putt this morning, and then a birdie on 11. He is in the rough off the tee on the longest hole on the course.

So far his drives have been off but this weather has also been horrible. 20-30 MPH winds yesterday with a ton of rain will affect your play no doubt. Putting has been horrible for everyone due to the amount of the water on the green. Conditions look good today for players to finally get it going. This may actually benefit those guys who haven't even teed off their 1st round yet. Of course they will have to lay a little bit more golf today and tomorrow.

The long holes I mentioned are playing a little bit shorter b/c they moved the tees up due to the weather. However the fairways are playing very slow due to the wetness.

Tiger is 3 over par on 5 of 7 holes thus far that i mentioned earlier.

Tiger gets par on 13, then birdies the par 3 14th to get to even par for his opening round.

How he finishes this final 4 holes will be key. He has gotten 2 strokes back over the last 4 holes and would hate to give them back now. Especially with the afternoon guys coming on soon with good conditions.

3 way lead now at -1.

Tiger implodes on the final 4 holes.... going +4. sitting at +4 after the first round, which actually isnt in that bad of shape, but after being Even through 14 he really messed up big time.

he's going to have to come back and shoot an even par round in the afternoon. really needs to stay +5 or better.

Yeh he did exactly what I thought he didn't need to do. I was thinking him going 1 over par the final 4 holes would be bad. I went for a bike ride and come back and find he went 4 over par. crazy.

Phil and the Thursday afternoon guys are out now and seeming to do okay. Well Phil just hit a tee shot into trees right of the fairway.

4 over par isn't horrible but Tiger will need to make up a couple shots in his 2nd round. I am thinking a couple of shots over par will be within striking distance.

The guys who did not even get to tee off yesterday may have caught a break. The course seems to a bit more playable, and more willing to yield a few birdies along the way. Let's see what happens this afternoon - if a couple of guys can manage to post a good low score (perhaps -3 or so), that would really put the pressure on the guys that are +3 or +4.

They really need to re-think the tee times in the event of a rain delay. The guys who got to play a full 18 today AND then rush out to play more have a tremendous advantage. Sure it could be the exact opposite, but then it would be a tremendous disadvantage and still unfair.

Not to mention they keep playing (whether this is good or bad depends on the player) while guys who teed off early had to wake up, finish early, and then be done until REALLY late today or most likely tomorrow. Just doesn't make sense when you're trying to push 2 rounds in one day.

The course is playing easy again this morning.

today:
Glover -6
Barnes -3
Yano -5
Mahan -4
Taylor -4
Holmes -4
Woodland -3
Ames -4

Leaders are at -7 now on a course that was expected to be a struggle to break par. Balls are staying in the farway instead of running through. Irons are hitting the greens and just sticking to that wet soft landing vs. bouncing or running through. Guys are making the adjustments and just killing the course right now.

Tiger tees off in a couple of hours. If the weather holds and he can get his tee shots going he could make some real noise. Saddly after his 4 over final 4 holes yesterday he now sits 11 shots out. He needs to go like 6 or 7 under today to get back in this thing.

Looking like Tiger will miss the cut and Duval will make it!! WTF? I wouldn't have bet that no matter the odds.

Imagine this. Tiger gets to the tee and shortly thereafter the rain comes again and they are on delay, again.

Tiger barely makes the cut and strangely being a US Open he isn't out of it. I am sick of rain delays. The Rangers, CWS, US Open, some car races (not sure which ones since I don't keep up that closely) it seems there is one every week lately.

WE need some rain here in Austin.

Yeh Tiger only got one hole in. He'll get to go back out at noon. The only thing he can hope for is that once the rain stops he gets some good playing surfaces. Then when the leaders make it out they somehow don't get such favorable conditions.

Phil is entertaining with some great shots but not sure he can make it up there. I think Tiger is done. Still awaiting the pressure to show on Ricky Barnes and the 88 from Duval.

Looks like Lucas Glover, Mike Weir, and Phil are in the best position to win the Open. Barnes has to find a way to kill that snap hook overnight, or he'll fall out of it. Duval is just not consistent enough, and Tiger is just too far back with only twelve holes left for him to play. Wish I could watch tomorrow, but it's back to work in the morning...

Tiger's 4 over on those last 4 holes of his 1st round absolutely killed him. That being said the 2 leaders (Barnes and Glovers) are the only guys with low scores right now. At 7 under their 5 stroke lead over Phil and others is only 2 strokes ahead of Tiger. If the leaders fall back to say 3 over par then it is match for many of those guys.

It is very unlikely that Tiger makes a match of this but it would be nice to see him finish at 2 or 3 under. He is 3 under his last 25 holes.

Yeh -3 was what I meant. Tiger was just at -1 with a few holes to play but now is back to even. Leader are at -4 and -3 and only look to be sliding back. Somebody posts a -2 and they could be the winner.

Weir and Mickelson are still probably the guys with best chances to catch the leaders.
