Everyone's favorite Argentine teen just made it to the Quarter-Finals of the 2008 US Open with a STRAIGHT SET VICTORY 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, over Kei Nishikori (Japan) who beat #4 David Ferrer (Spain) in 5 sets.
Juan Martin Del Potro
will play the winner of #10 Stanislas Wawrinka (Sui) vs. #6 Andy Murray (GBR)

When I make a point. I sometimes like to drive it into the ground.

I did not know that Tracy Chapman played tennis. Teen my ***. That is Antonio Banderas.

A nice article about how the Olympics looks to have had a NEGATIVE effect on the tennis players playing in the US Open.

I'm sure Roddick (and Potro) are really upset that they didn't go. (I don't know if either really had a choice. Potro did not, but Roddick's health might have also contributed to him not being selected vs. electing not to go.)

I will continue to hammer as the tournament progresses.

del potro chokes on the first set against murray. i'm sure napoleon is not happy right now. actually both players were broken TWICE each in the first set. let's see how this plays out.

My boy del Potro has some serious Top Level service issues.
After being down 1-4 in the first set, he came back and was serving for the set at 5-4... only to be broken. Then he lost in the tie breaker.

I think he broke and then was broken back in the second set only to lose in a tie breaker.

He won the 3rd set, then...

He opened the 4th set by breaking A. Murray, only to give it back in the 4th game. (It's 2-2 in the 4th right now.)

I really want del Potro to win for several reasons:

1) He's Argentine
2) He's fun to watch
3) I can't stand Andy Murray
4) I really, really like being right
5) I really, really
don't like being wrong
6) I want to continue my smug posts

I think del Potro needs to work on his serve more than any other part of his game. He's 6'6" and should be a MONSTER when serving, but his top speeds seem to hover in the 122-125 range. That's a little lower than A. Murray. And A. Murray is a *****!!!

Vamos chico!! Vamos!!!

PS- I saw where Martina Navratilova was playing in a "Legends" match at the US Open today and she had a serve that was 108 mph
!!! And she's like 50 years old!!!

Well, my boy lost:

7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 7-5

I really hate Andy Murray and I also really wanted to see how del Potro could handle Nadal's groundstrokes. The ridiculously hight bounce from Nadal's balls (
biggrin.gif
) would have been somewhat negated by a 6'6" guy being able to knock a forehand at such a higher height.

Andy Murray is a one trick serving pony. Nadal will beat him like the pencil-necked geek that he is.

COME ON ANDY RODDICK!!!!!

Well, Roido makes it through. We'll see what El Choke-o does v. Novak Djokovic. Go Novak.

aw come on napoleon, give murray a chance. i used to hate him just because he looks/acts like a brat sometimes. but if you watch his interviews and news conferences he's a really funny/nice dude.

Our boy Andy Roddick is OUT of the US Open.

Many on here have shown your support for Andy over the previous months and I would like to say, that just like Jason Campbell of the Washington Redskings...

Now the Great Imitator goes up against my favorite Swiss Miss...ter...

...for the right to play against the winner of the match between a modern homo sapien with serious lack of musculature in the neck region and a neanderthal from Iberia... or islands just off the eastern coast of the peninsula.

But fear not my friends, the tall creature from the future/South America will rise up in the coming years and conquer all... just like a ******** friend from high school just did in my Facebook game of "World Conquest".

Courage!!

Man that was painful. Gotta love the way Johnny Mac starts saying how great its going to be having USA network end its coverage with a five set match, only to have Roddick drop 8 straight points.

short'ish dictator, that was freakin' awesome. I think you should have to provide a pictorial for every post from now on.

Congrats Djokovic for your win over Roddick. Congrats also for being a freaking whiner and cryer over Roddicks jest comments. Just another reason for me to actually root for El Fed to kick your *** all over the court in the semis. Seriously people, you guys really like this whiny *** clown? I use to try and like him when he was the up and comer taking down the giants and moving up the rankings but since he's been in the top 5 he's constantly irritated most of the top players including Roger and Rafa. There's no crying in tennis beotch so here's to yet another Roger/Rafa final.

not to offend any roddick fans, but he's never had a solid, all-round game but he's serve only and that's one of the reasons ive never really been a fan. If his serve is off, he has no chance. Doesn't help that he's also not one of the strongest mental players out there.

Fed vs. Djoka in semi coming up. Fed hasn't been as sharp as he needs to be but not struggling like he has the past month or so. Djoka has some injuries and Roddick should have made him work harder but choked. I think this will be a close match. Djoka is one of the best in the world on a hard court surface and has had very good success the last year. Will be interesting to see if Fed can keep his streak alive at the Open.

Nadal vs. Murray should be another interesting matchup. Murray has played really well this year and Nadal is at the top of his game. Nadal is easily the favorite

Another Williams sister in a final at a major. Continues to disappoint me that they get put in the same sides of draws much less the same quarter. These 2 just met at the final in Wimbledon....jeez.

Federer with some loose shots that cost him the 2nd set. A long match here will continue to push the 2nd match back as well.

I bet I know how it turns out.

The second Semi-final is a little crazy. It's in the 3rd set and wow......

wtf.gif

Fed holds easily in 4th set.

Nadal down 2 sets to love in his match. May have to play 8 sets in final...tough road.

Not the Rafa I'm used to seeing, but definitely outplayed by Murray. Should be interesting, since Murray has played Fed well in the past.
